Could it be that the pro EU Remain PM David Cameron deliberately slashed the defence budget to 2% in 2010 (or whenever) so that the future "EU Army" would fill in the gap? Hmm.... :idea: :shh:

He slashed the defense budget because he was (and remains, it seems) a fervent believer in austerity and applied it with abandon.

How can Hunt stand up and say he will increase Defence whilst being a member of the Government that has constantly slashed defence to the bone to pay for the foreign aid and austerity.

Politicians are genetically predisposed to lie with a straight face. It helps that many of them are also lawyers.

Right now I'd settle for a .25% increase in real terms.
