Not at all surprised that they went with a system on wheels, as it falls in line with other proc priorities (Romanian army conference speech; an abstract):
Army focus on quick procurement procedures for the land forces
· Modernization of 48 existing infantry combat vehicles
· Procurement of 94 Piranha armored personnel carriers
· Strategic purpose of completing the process of making the Craiova Brigade fully operational and available to NATO
· Further acquisition of 657 vehicles including other types of 8x8 carriers manufactured in Romania, at Moreni

... didn't we say that we eventually want 800-ish Boxers to make the two new brigades fully operational?

Whereas it still seems to be a bit undecided what will be the priority targets (will they buy all of this, authorised on the seller's side, or decide on the mix in due course?): 1.5 +1.5 +1 loadouts per system
eighty-one (81) Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (GMLRS) M31A1 Unitary, eighty-one (81) Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (GMLRS) M30A1 Alternative Warhead, and fifty-four (54) Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) M57 Unitary.
- point targets
- area effects
- and counter"battery" fire from a distance; a whole battery gone with one shot (if not well dispersed; the ruskies still favour "gun lines" at least based on the aerial photos from Ukraine. Well, Ukraine's artillery was outgunned and "our-reached" ... so why not?).
Ever-lasting truths: Multi-year budgets/ planning by necessity have to address the painful questions; more often than not the Either-Or prevails over Both-And.
If everyone is thinking the same, then someone is not thinking (attributed to Patton)

So Damen lost their bid, presumably was with Sigma 10514. Do anyone know how much this Naval contract amounts for?
