Fallon resigned.

Post by benny14 »

BBC reporting Fallon resigned. Apparently due to the whole knee touching incident. I say he took the chance to leg it before the upcoming cuts.

Fallon has fallen on his sword. Who will replace him and will they be any better for our military?

Hopefully we get someone with actual military experience like the US got with Mattis.

Frak no....

Huffington Post is reporting that Fallon couldn't assure Downing street that there wouldn't be more stories about him in the future.... so he's gone,

There must be more than the JHB incident....time will tell. The question is, how does this affect the mini-review and the defence budget in the budget later this month? Reports indicating his replacement to be announced tomorrow. It won't be Boris as that would be a demotion. I doubt TM would bring in someone from outside of the cabinet for such a high profile role, which would rule out Mercer (unfortunately)....so Elwood? Baldwin?

Gee, massive cuts that cripple the forces rumoured to be on the horizon and he uses a quick chance to jump ship, so he doesn't have to 'break promises'.

Good riddance either way. Absolute incompetant in the role.

Not suggesting suitable candidates, was suggesting possible likely candidates. TM seems to somehow make a mess of pretty much every decision/opportunity/event that you should list the candidates by suitability and the person at the bottom of the list is then the favourite...

Gavin Alexander Williamson, CBE (born 25 June 1976. Age 41) is a British Conservative Party politician who was appointed as Secretary of State for Defence in November 2017. He was first elected at the 2010 general election as Member of Parliament (MP) for South Staffordshire. Williamson was Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to Patrick McLoughlin as Secretary of State for Transport. Williamson was then appointed PPS to the Prime Minister, David Cameron, in October 2013. On 14 July 2016, he was appointed Chief Whip in Theresa May's government, and on 2 November 2017 he was promoted to Secretary of State for Defence.

Early Career
Williamson is originally from Scarborough, North Yorkshire. Both of his parents were Labour voters. Williamson was educated at East Ayton Primary School, at Raincliffe School, and the Scarborough Sixth Form College, where he studied 'Government and Politics' and 'Economics' as A-levels. He obtained a BSc in Social Sciences from the University of Bradford.

Williamson was the penultimate national chairman of Conservative Students, before it was abolished in 1998 and the separate youth wings of the party were amalgamated as Conservative Future. He was elected a county councillor in 2001 for the Seamer division in North Yorkshire but later stood down in 2005.

Williamson previously worked in the Staffordshire pottery industry and for an architectural design firm. Williamson is a former Deputy Chairman of Staffordshire Area Conservatives, Chairman of Stoke-on-Trent Conservative Association, and Vice-Chairman of Derbyshire Dales Conservative Association.

In the 2005 General Election, he stood unsuccessfully as the Conservative Party candidate in Blackpool North and Fleetwood. After 2005, Williamson then moved to Derbyshire

Defence Secretary...'Of course PM, How could I be so silly'.

It seems I gave TM too much credit, he wasn't even on the list!

daily telegraph speculating fallon was tip of iceberg and could be enough to bring May down. Wonder it Corbyns appeal of being the outsider will sweep him to power with promises to clean up politics

Seeing as Labour have a more major sex assault scandal going on atm... then I can't see Corbyn being able to run on being any better than the Tories...
