If the number of people has risen by that much in the Uk, then how many new schools, hospitals etc have been built to acommodate them.

If it does, good luck paying for the still increasing number of pensions, as well as the NHS, working age benefits and a whole host of other things.

I was implying it was Scotland. 5.3m is their population size. ;)

Considering the demographic and size of each of the voting areas, its plain to me the voting arrangement is a bit unjust that a double majority voting system needs to be in place for referendums, considering that England could in theory out vote the rest of the kingdom.

with only 4 member it should therefore have only been carried by a majority of nation within the kingdom, if that had been in place the exit vote would not have carried.

Under that scenario, we would have to follow the example set by Russia (from the beep, note how bad news are buried in Russia) and make life expectancy and pension age match:
"Protests are being held in about 30 Russian cities to express anger at proposals to raise the pension age.

The plan, announced the day the football World Cup began, would see the age raised gradually from 60 to 65 for men, and from 55 to 63 for women.

The government says the changes are needed to cope with a shrinking workforce having to provide for an increasing number of retirees.

But unions warn many people will not live long enough to claim a pension.

Russian men have a life expectancy of 66 "

When the UK State pension was introduced in 1904, it was paid at age 70. Average male life expectancy was 48. When I was at school, men retired at 65 and had a life expectancy of 67. Average male life expectancy is now a few months short of 80 and I read recently that it's estimated that one third of children born in the UK today will live to see their 100th birthday (something to do with the abject failure of socialised medicine, according to Trump supporters), so look for it to return to > 70 in the UK as later-life health also improves (start saving if you want to retire earlier than that). Today's average 70-year old is as healthy as someone in their mid-fifties in my youth. This is, of course, nothing to do with Brexit - just demographics and the effects of better nutrition, better education, increased wealth and universal health care.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has revealed new data showing that life expectancy in the UK has stopped improving for the first time since 1982, when figures began.

Overall in the UK, Women's life expectancy from birth remains 82.9 years and for men it is 79.2, the figures from the Office for National Statistics, for 2015-17, show.

In some parts of the UK, life expectancy has even decreased. For men and women in Scotland and Wales, it declined by more than a month. Men in Northern Ireland have seen a similar fall. For women in Northern Ireland, and for men and women in England, life expectancy at birth is unchanged.

According to various people opining on the BBC this morning, this is either due to fewer people in the centenarian age group due to WW2, flu epidemics and colder winters in 2015-2017 and re-definition of deaths of premature babies as peri-natal mortality (I think - they were a little unclear) or alternatively, it couldn't be due to colder winters and flu epidemics, because we haven't had any and it's all due to austerity and too few "young healthy migrants"......

.... I'm sure someone tried to blame it on Brexit as well!

Anyone know why this forum has so little activity? The Finnish military forum has almost 3000 members and hundreds of members and guests active during day time at any given time and hundreds of replies every day.

In Finland most people have experience in the military in some way, so naturally gather an interest to know whats up.

In the UK, it's serving, previously serving, or defence enthusiasts for the most part. Much smaller base of people.

Only just over 10 times, not 20.

And if you consider that 80% of males in Finland go to military service, and there are 5% more males than females in Finland's population of almost 6 million, compare to the few hundred thousand British serving people plus whatever small amount of enthusiasts there is...

It's easy to see why Finland's military service pushes a vastly larger amount of people into continuing to chat about it.

Also worth noting UKDF is not the largest of its kind. Places like ARRSE are much more active to my knowledge.

Yeah, complying with the national requirement of mooning, etc.

So that the above would not sound "too bad" one must say that we on this site have been saved from what on many continental Europe -sites amounts to techno-infantilism
= everything shiny and new (even if only announced in manufacturers R&D plans) is what people profess to... and argue for with religous zeal

How do I know? Because I read many of those sites

And then there's twitter plenty of defence related stuff there. I think it's more spread out here in the UK, there's bits on many forums. Perhaps not much interest as a single forum.

As suggested I think arrse is the busiest, I can't think of any more close to its size. Think Defence used to be quite good, but it's much quieter now.

UK Census 2021

As you may (or not) know, 2021 is a UK Census year and the census letters are arriving at homes now. (I got mine today)

The letter does NOT contain a traditional paper census form to complete and return, you are given a website address to use instead. However, you are provided with a freephone number to call for requesting a paper-based census form if you prefer the traditional method.

Your census must be completed on Sunday 21st March 2021.

Oh and theres a £1000 fine if you don't do it....
