Re: Wave Class Tanker (RFA)
Older descriptions have a lot to recommend them. They would help to avoid the “Send three and four pence, we are going to a dance” type of communication error. In these days of combined forces, perhaps we should return to calling them “Oilers”. On the other hand maybe for the uninformed, the symbol would then resemble an oil can (or oil well).

A proud British tradition. Will probably integrate her with Brimstone first......dmereifield wrote:Spending money on refurb just before paying off in the upcoming review?Rambo wrote:RFA Wave Knight pictured at Cammel Laird this week.

I wonder why the platform has changed the treatment of the piccie, overnight. Was there some copyright issue?

Indeed, I last saw her in Portland Harbour last year, whilst doing harbour tour from Weymouth.

Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RFA_Wave_Ruler_(A390)
In June 2018 it was reported by the Brazilian press that the UK MoD had offered to sell one or both of the Wave-class tankers to Brazil. As early as 2010, BAE Systems had proposed providing Brazil with a variant of the Wave class, tailored to meet the specific aviation, stores and personnel requirements of the Brazilian Navy.
As of June 2020, Wave Ruler was reported to be in extended readiness (reserve).
Re: Wave Class Tanker (RFA)
How does that even work out, they save £79m over 10 years but at the same time put £110m to one side incase they need reactivating, surely why not use that £110m to run them for the 10 years and keep a much needed asset going
Re: Wave Class Tanker (RFA)
Exactly and still save money over the ten year timeframe. It must be a case of moving amounts of money between columns of a ledger or Spreadsheet.
Re: Wave Class Tanker (RFA)
TBH I think we have enough tankers with Tide class and we need the money for FSS program. If they are kept in reasonable order they could be re-activated in a hurry and the RFA have a real man-power crisis at the moment especially in engineers.
Re: Wave Class Tanker (RFA)
"We will save money by spending even more money on NOT using them...." an MOD spokesperson didn't say today...
Re: Wave Class Tanker (RFA)
We only have 4 Tides and considering our move east naval wise replenishment is a area they are short off so more tankers the better.
And how is putting £110m to one side in order to “save” £79m help fund the FSS ?
Re: Wave Class Tanker (RFA)
I read it there setting aside £110 in the 2028-2030 time frame because they don’t have £79m in the 2021-2028 time frame to run them at present. The 2028 time frame is a long term hypothetical at this stage an sdsr review away so you can put that in never never land specially if someone may enquire about there availability for sale.
Oh logistics as they say.
