British/commonwealth war movie ideas
War movies tend to end up how the Americans saved the day usually because the finance and marketing is aimed at them! if there was the finance and market what British & Commonwealth military exploits do we think could make good movies? can be based on books etc
my thoughts:-
1. Pegasus bridge
2. Battles for South georgia
3. Battle of Long Tan

What about Pathfinder by David Blakeley?
Small unit behind the lines, begged for help by the yanks (who are getting their arses kicked in Nasiriyah), failed mission (us Brits love a failure) and telling off from the higher ups (class war).
All this and Ron Jeremy driving a taxi

How about the Battle of Mirbat, or has that already been done?

It would, and the only question the studios will have is: Can we make up a believable reason for US Marines to be in a conflict in the South Atlantic or do we need to relocate the piece to Iraq, Korea or Vietnam?

Zangaro is a v good book, and a really crap movie (by a director that has made lots of good war movies, incl. one based on the Hamburger Hill in Vietnam with the "I am no Custer" line)
- the time for a retake?
The saving grace (not enough to save the whole movie) was that they put UGLs onto some vintage submachine guns (at the time UGLs were probably still only on the testing ranges).

"In Vietnam War, Vietcong applied the human wave tactic, despite they barbecued 10,000 troopers in Dien Bien Phu’s battle, exclusive ten thousand lives of the battlefield’ s laborer, instead French just lost 1,000.
The Long Tan battle applied as the same tactic, on August 18, 1966, Vietcong gathered from 1,500 to 2,500 troopers of regiment 275 (North communist) and provincial mobile battalion D445 (regional force), they attacked D company of 6th battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR).
The battle field was not equal the numerous troop between both sides, therefore the D Company fought bravely, despite its company just had 108 men, then the human wave tactic crushed down badly. Vietcong laid 245 bodies, not including the casualty and injure troopers to be brought by their comrade, the D company lost 18 men"
If no traditional "action" movie comes out of the woodwork, then a documentary on human wave tactics (from Korea, as devised by Mao and yielding a million casualties, through the above events, to the Iran-Iraq war where the one with the more numerous population tried to turn this to a tactical advantage) would be an interesting one for watching.

Or how about,
Quoted from the video below.the Commando raid on the German occupied dry dock at St. Nazaire in France on 28th March 1942. It was an operation so successful and so heroic that it resulted in the award of five Victoria Crosses and 80 other decorations for gallantry.

From a dominions point of view,
Kapyong - 23-24 April 1951
Air battle over Sunchon, North Korea (RAAF)
"In this, the largest air-to-air battle fought by the RAAF during the Korean war, twelve 77 Squadron Meteors met between 40-50 Chinese Mig-15s. The fight precipitated a change from an air interception to a ground attack role for No. 77 Squadron"
And
Battle of Coral and Balmoral, Fire Support Bases

Well, he's from South Shields and his Dad was in the Royal Engineers (and he nearly joined the Army himself), so I think he's a better bet than most "Hollywood" directorsmarktigger wrote:made by Ridley Scott so will it be how the Eagle Squadrons won the BoB

The audio here
would give an idea what a new "Bridge too far" movie would say.
