Take Ocean for example, just finished a major refit then sold for a bargain price to Brazil that included further work bring done to both remove and add items. Bit like selling a new BMW M4 for the prices of a Kia because you need to make a monthly payment, whilst putting in a bigger engine and sound system, and then adding new carpets at the customers request but keeping the air freshener :D !

JAKARTA, Feb 10 (Reuters) - Indonesia will order 42 Rafale fighter jets, France's defence minister said on Thursday, after the two countries signed a series of agreements that include submarine development and ammunition manufacturing.
Pointed reference to AUKUS:
The deal comes as Paris, which views itself as a global maritime power, seeks to expand geopolitical ties in the Indo-Pacific after the United States, Britain and Australia created a new strategic alliance last year called AUKUS, which includes equipping Australia with nuclear-powered submarines.

Indonesia too has expressed concern about AUKUS, wary the use of the nuclear-powered submarines could add to geopolitical tensions in Southeast Asia, a region where China has considerable clout. Indonesia's defence minister, however, has said he understood why the alliance was formed.
Seen suggestions elsewhere that two Scorpène Class submarines are also to be sold.

I imagine South Korea's cocking an eyebrow at the moment considering Indonesia never pays their share of KF-21 on time

Indonesia has a history of announcing its intent to buy "X" amount of something then buying considerably fewer in small batches over a considerable period of time. I can see them buying a squadrons worth initially and then taking quite along time to equip a second and so on. Do we know what these Rafales are replacing? The Hawk 100/200s, F-16s or are they expanding the size of their Air Force?

Surely if they have gone for Rafale it would be to replace F-16 and SU-27/30 and then buy FA-50 to replace Hawk-200 or they could be looking to replace Hawk 200 and SU-27/30 and keep the F-16's . 33 F-16's and 42 Rafale's would make a good force replacing the F-16's later with KF-21

I forgot about the SU-27/30. Their F-16 are pretty old and really need a substantial update to maintain their viability. Replacing the SU-27/30 would make sense as well making the Rafale their high end platform and the F/A-50 their lower but still effective platform replacing the Hawks as has been said. They can then wait until the KF-21 Block 2 is in production, the follow on version with a weapons bay to carry its AAMs internally rather then recessed.
