Portsmouth are confirmed to be playing Salford City in the 2020 EFL Trophy Final after they beat Newport County (in the other semi) on penalties.
(Expect Sky Sports Wembley studio filled with Gary Neville and his mates from Class of '92 to be giving a totally 'unbiased' commentary.)

Ouch! How come there's such a difference? I assume league status and distance has something to do with it? Poor Salford - although seems to me they aren't setting their hopes too high, they aren't spending huge money on a Wembley hotel like Sunderland did last year.

Salford City's average home attendance is 3,102 from a stadium capacity of 5,108.

Portsmouth's current average home attendance is 18,223. However, Portsmouth's fanbase is far larger than its 20,160 seat stadium. There are also fewer clubs based in southern England than those based in the north, so Portsmouth's fanbase is wider - even though 50% of that catchment area extends into the English Channel!

Portsmouth are already in another Wembley final in April, unlike Arsenal.
(And already sold 42,500 of the 53,500 allocation)

Portsmouth FC have now sold 50,000 tickets (of the 50,300 allocation) for the EFL Trophy Final, and will become the largest single group of domestic football fans to attend the present Wembley Stadium in it's history. Portsmouth have beaten the 49,000 record previously held by Millwall FC, a London-based club.

Not that crazy. Their average home attendances are only slightly smaller than Bournemouth's.
Or indeed Southampton's.

An iconic voice from a time before everything was analysed to death

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/golf/55204070

Peter Alliss, the legendary BBC golf commentator, has died at the age of 89.

Alliss, known as 'the voice of golf' to fans around the world, has been synonymous with the BBC's golf coverage for more than half a century.

Having first appeared on the BBC in 1961, he was made lead golf commentator in 1978 after retiring as a player.

"It is with great sadness we announce the passing of golfing and broadcast legend Peter Alliss," said Alliss' family.

In a statement, they described his death as "unexpected but peaceful".

They added: "Peter was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and his family ask for privacy at this difficult time."
