RSS Sir David Attenborough has just left Cammel Laird shipyard at Birkenhead, crossed the Mersey to Liverpool prior to beginning her sea trials.

It may not be headline grabbing attention of announcing new UK shipbuilds, but it is still an important part of the government’s 30 year National Shipbuilding Strategy.

Currently unclear what Babcocks will do with their frigate factory in Rosyth once the last T31 has been launched, given the real uncertainty of what the T32 will be and when/if it will be funded. Whether that gap (in frigate production) could / would be filled with work on more OPV's or the potential MRSS is as yet unknown.

Yet hopefully this announcement is just the start of more future work that Babcock will need for Rosyth to survive long term.
