Here's a selection of high resolution images:Hundreds of UK maritime personnel will take part in a NATO exercise focused on crisis response over the next fortnight.
Exercise Cold Response will draw in around 750 personnel from the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, along with two warships. It will give the UK and its NATO Allies the opportunity to test crisis response during the demanding winter months.

What are the benefits of shooting through X-skis like that? Does it provide a genuine stable base?
Just looks cumbersome to me, and seems to somewhat limit your angles of fire

COLD WEATHER TRAINING
COLD WEATHER TRAINING
On the frozen slopes and lakes, along the icy waters of the fjords and in skies scarred by snow flurries, the Royal Navy and Royal Marines have demonstrated their ability to survive – and fight – in the harshest environment imaginable.
From the port of Trondheim to 100 miles from the northernmost tip of Europe, warships, Naval Air Squadrons and Royal Marines Commandos have contended with temperatures down to -30˚C as they practise the art of Arctic warfare.
As a truly global force it remains vital that the Royal Navy is able to operate and fight in every environment.
It is only by training in these extreme conditions that we can prepare our people for what might be expected of them and ensure that the routines and procedures that we use on board work.
Sister frigates HMS Iron Duke and Sutherland are taking part in Exercise Cold Response to demonstrate the ability of NATO and its partner nations to defend the alliance’s northern flank.

In the first photo it is being done properly (the ski poles go abt 10-20 cm into the snow and you lock the crossing of them in place with the other hand, so that is a good support).RunningStrong wrote:What are the benefits of shooting through X-skis like that? Does it provide a genuine stable base?

In the next photo it has been done all wrong: if the poles have been pushed down on your side, rather than if front of you, there is no benefit, rather the contrary (so that picture is just a pose, not training).
Ever-lasting truths: Multi-year budgets/ planning by necessity have to address the painful questions; more often than not the Either-Or prevails over Both-And.
