So the UK could loan Ukraine 1.2 billion to build 8 new fast attack boats and the talk is of Vita or super-Vita class ships and if this goes ahead and works another loan for a new class of ship this could be good news for Appledore

Saw this on the STRN site, not sure where the rumour started though or its credibility. Would be a nice shot in the arm for UK shipbuilding and would tie in with Boris' positive comments on UK shipbuilding....

Mind you another £1.2Bn spent on ships for various UK agencies and services would help UK shipbuilding also.

And when you run it through Google Translate it mainly talks about how it's a bad deal for Ukraine.

So... Much to my (and other's) amazement. The story is real!

Ukraine will sign a memorandum with the United Kingdom, securing 1.25 billion pounds ($1.61 billion) to build new military vessels for the Ukrainian Navy, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Wednesday.

The memorandum would be signed during Zelenskiy's state visit to the UK on Oct. 7-8.

The article names them as being Barzan class as sold to Qatar. However they don't have any sources backing that up.

Be great to start with and maybe a few of t31 class for a follow on loan ,say build one in UK and another 2 in Ukraine ...just a thought like

Like the sound of that.

Probably too late for the five that are on order, but maybe we could interest them in a number of Type 31s with some of the blocks for all future batches built in Ukraine and shipped over, in return for final assembly and fitting out at Roysth's shiny new shed.

Could drive down costs substantially and potentially improve export prospects, plus get us a really foot in the door for future Ukrainian defence exports. They've got a big job ahead of them in moving away from Ruskie kit.

First of all, a nice name for a class: to remind the Russians who it actually was that built a statehood for them

They ended up signing with the turks (AFTER the US sanctions)... to the surprise of all. This deal literally came out of nowhere...

May be they would be interested in a couple of the non ASW T-23s. Quite a few nations snapped up ex USN O H Perrys when they were thought to be no longer needed and they had been worked hard in the Atlantic.

looks like it could be the right size to replace the Boarder force patrol boats down the line

I assume that, by "Protector-based", they mean HMC Protector, which is one of the current BF cutters (A Finnish Telkka-class, IIRC). Presumably their experience has shown that it's a good hull - though I would have thought that it would need a bit more speed for the missile-boat role, as Protector maxes out at around 22 knots.
