I was startled and appalled to read that there are more than 140 people employed by the government in a unit set up to investigate supposed "war crimes" by British troops in recent conflicts.

Now if you put people in jobs like that, they are going to want to stay employed, which means showing that they are doing a worthwhile job, which means coming up with results. They are not going to say "Nope, we've drawn a blank, there's nothing for us to do" are they?

So brace yourself for a stream of stories like this, which will have the main result of damaging Britain's reputation while catastrophically undermining the confidence of our troops in battle. Talk about an own goal; ISIL must be rolling around with laughter.

yes tank gunners, Forward Air Controllers, Forward Observation officers and Mortar Fire Controllers, Pilots any crews from indirect fire weapons stand by if you didn't warn the enemy you were going to fire then you are liable. Interesting the Behaviour of the investigators wondering how legal some of it is?

Startled and appalled says TW. Quite. Me too. How is it that the RN asks for 2000 additional people in SDSR2015 and only gets 400 when they can drum up 140 for this? I would have 1.4 doing it not 140. They would be entirely sufficient to identify the extremely rare real issues and put everything else on the "to do" list.

Yes its disgusting, revolting and abhorrent. We have lawyers working overtime to put our soldiers in the dock over events in Iraq, Afghanistan and even Northern Ireland. Meanwhile Health and Safety experts are putting in claims for loss of hearing, mental stress etc. And meanwhile the government are wanting to cut Soldiers pay and increase the time they are away on deployments etc. Moral couldn't be lower than it is, already personnel are leaving in droves and quite frankly who can blame them.
