Hmm, only two catapults? I expected at least three for such a large ship...

Would the French carrier have a version of the H.M.W.H.S as deployed on Queen Elizabeth class its manning level of a thousand sailors could either be because of this or nuclear propulsion requires it ?
Since the ship is to field the next generation fighter still under planning does this suggest this fighter will either be designed for carrier deployment or come in two versions? either way , and would the partners in the next generation aircraft be paying for the navalized version design development?

Given this is a "Prestige" programme one at least will be built there is no doubt. As for the next gen. air systems to be carried aboard, it would make sense to simply have one version like with the F/A-18 or F-4 that can operate for carriers but is just as happy on land. Yes there is a weight penalty but the two aircraft mentioned show it is not necessarily an impediment.

That'd be where I'd put my money with maybe Jeanne d'Arc, Charlemagne or maybe Georges Pompidou as outsiders.

Shame we did not build a third QEC, then the new French Carrier could have been named D’artagnon!

Surely the Mistrals will be going out of service by the time the new carriers enter service, about twenty years hence!

Could be just after the second CVN is built ? just in time to build 2 LHD, even then that will be a good place to be for the MN

Also I think 2 x QEC and maybe 2 x Albion replacements ( LHD fingers crossed ) will still be a good place for the future RN, especially considering all the cuts & penny pinching ( but pound foolish  ) that has gone on ...

If the French navy get two CVN and it is a big if they will need more tier 1 escorts once they have FREMM AAW they will have 4 x AAW and 6 ASW and the tier 2 FTI class. As for who will have the most powerful navy it is all dick waving but if the RN want to be top dog then we will need to replace the 2 Albion's with 2 LHA's and the 3 Bay's and Argus with 4 new Enforcers class LSD's/ LPD's

French E-2D Advanced Hawkeyes To Feature Aerial Refueling Capability
Image
The future E-2D Advanced Hawkeyes of the French Navy (Marine Nationale) will come with aerial refueling capability, Naval News has learned from the Directorate General of Armaments (DGA).

Contacted by Naval News, the DGA officer in charge of the E-2D program confirmed that the future French E-2Ds will feature aerial refueling capability:
“The French E-2Ds will be equipped with an in-flight refueling probe. The following French aircraft should be able to refuel them: Rafale M, A400M, MRTT, KC130J and future refuelers.”

Naval News understands that the “future refuelers” mentioned above is related to the future aircraft carrier’s air wing ability to refuel its own aircraft. This will be the Rafale M replacement (known as NGF) or could even be an unmanned aerial refueler (something similar to the MQ-25)

The tweet does not open for me, but an interesting development as their Scorpion programme is progressing at pace
- the number of VBCIs deployed to Mali was actually very low and the ones that went in first did not have the enhancements, like Felin for the dismounts (and other sections still mounted) to fully benefit from a locally dispersed way of operating.

On Novembre 19, 2020, the French Minister of the Armed Forces confirmed a contract notification to Dassault Aviation for twelve “Albatros” Maritime Surveillance and Intervention Aircraft (AVSIMAR). Based on the Falcon 2000LXS, the Albatros is set to replace previous generations of maritime surveillance aircraft in service with the French Navy and on the export market. Arriving after 2025, it is likely to operate alongside next generation maritime UAVs.

Lots of Naval Air news from France lately...

French Navy’s Upgraded ATL2 MPA Reaches IOC
Image
The French Navy (Marine Nationale) Atlantique 2 (ATL2) "Standard 6" maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) reached initial operational capacity on 18 December 2020.

The IOC validation comes at the end of an intense period of operational evaluation conducted by the ATL2 detachment of the CEPA/10S Air Test and Evaluation Squadron of the French Navy. This evaluation revealed a significant capability enhancement, particularly in the field of anti-submarine warfare (ASW).
...
Moving forward, two more Atlantique 2 “Standard 6” are set to be delivered in 2021 for a total fleet of five operational aircraft by the time the FOC is achieved (end of 2021).

OK, a good bridge to
" until 2030. The ATL2 is then set to be replaced by the French-German MAWS program."

Connected to that I wonder if the Germans still fly the same airframes in ELINT capacity?

Airbus is pushing its A320 MPA for the MAWS programme and is seen as the prime contender, with the same platform also being put forward as the basis for an interim replacement for the E-3As of NATO's AWACS force.

Hypothetically yes, at present both programmes are in their initial stages under the joint european programme management offices. A european solution is being sought for the MPA but it will not be plain sailing as some european NATO members have already decided on the next generation MPA platforms such as Italy and Norway.
