On July 5th, the French Navy Naval Aviation Practical Experimentation Center (centre d’expérimentations pratiques de l’aéronautique navale - CEPA) led a certification campaign of the United States Marine Corps (USMC) Boeing V-22 Osprey tilt rotor aircraft on the Mistral class LHD Dixmude. The tests took place off the coast of Djibouti, an East Africa country where both France and the USA have permanent bases.

Worth noting that France does not itself intend to use H225M for maritime CSAR, they are very happy with the NH90s for this purpose. It's just that some of the potential export customers have expressed an interest in this role.

IDK... it kind off starts to piss me off this "blend camo" trend (it is not really new, its been around for the past decade or so).

Look at F35 or A400M

No matter who the end user is, they are all painted the same gray (for the A400M, they even all share the same Arial font style and size, even for Malaysian or Turkish AF...)

When are we gonna see things like that again ?!

I hear you - but of the monotone grey schemes i think the light grey applied to the likes of the Rafale or the Eurofighter are some of the better looking examples out there. They kind of suit their shape in some respects. I do agree however that the F-35 in its strange graphite grey with duct tape like stripes is just dog ugly.

I'm still hoping against hope however that the RAF changes policy and decides to officially adopt the new BoB tribute camo on all of its Typhoons! ;)

Exclusive: DCNS Working an Electric Propulsion Variant of the BRAVE Replenishment Tanker
Image
Navy Recognition learned that DCNS and its partner STX France recently received a risk assessment contract from the French procurement agency (DGA) to study a fully electric variant of its BRAVE replenishment tanker design. Unveiled at Euronaval 2010, DCNS updated the design of the BRAVE support ship for Euronaval 2012. BRAVE served as the basis for the study contract won by DCNS and STX in 2012 as part of the future FLOTLOG program which aims at replacing the Durance class auxiliary/replenishment vessels in the French Navy.

DCNS is designing some really lovely looking ships of late. The Aquitaine Class and the BRAVE concept are gorgeous examples of naval architecture.

So does anyone have any idea what's going to happen to the Mistrals that aren't going to Russia any more?

Can't think ofhand of too many countries that would either want,afford, or be able to run them. It's a wonder France hasn't tried to flog them as a basis for a 'Euro Navy' ;)

I've got the perfect solution. Why don't we buy them as part of our foreign aid budget and "convert" them in to humanitarian and disaster relief ships? ;)

Official: France and Russia Reached an Agreement for the Non Delivery of the 2 Mistral Class LHDs
Image
The sensitive case of the non-delivery of two Mistral class LHDs to Russia reached an end tonight, after eight months of intense negotiations. According to an official press release from the French presidency, France and Russia reached an agreement.
...
Under this agreement:
- The Russian Federation is exclusively and fully reimbursed of the sums advanced under the contract;
- Russian equipment that were installed on the vessels will be taken off board and given back to Russia;
- France will have full ownership and free disposal of the two vessels.
President Hollande and Mr Putin welcomed the friendly and open atmosphere of partnership that marked the negotiations.

It will be interesting to see what happens with them next.

I'm guessing only India and China are the two remotely feasible new homes for them.

Might India not be the more likely and possibly give a little explanation as to what might have happened with the Rafale deal?
