Thx, xav for the interesting line up in the actual article
" is actually pretty close in size to Italy’s future Trieste LHD." which to me would seem to be the sweet spot between capability and also having the numbers

A pity that America Class had not been included in that line up. Dokdo seems to have become a one off, with the ROK navy moving into the same direction in design as everyone else

This is apparently a useful means for intimidation, a line up of fifties-era jets the j-6 which is claimed to have been converted to drones , deployed at an airfield within reach of Taiwan, an interesting tactic that could be taken up by other nations with old aircraft good for one last flight

the unmanned J6 has been knocking around for 10 years or so now how good it is is another thing however I guess if they sent 40 or so in some liked of battle formation to the South the RoCAF would have to send a good number of jets to look / counter them meaning less jets defend the real attack

China’s Future Carrier Airwing: New Stealth Fighter And AWACS Spotted In Flight

Image
Several pictures by local plane spotters surfaced today showing two key aircraft of the future Chinese aircraft carrier airwing in flight: The new People's Liberation Army Navy Air Force (PLANAF) twin engine stealth fighter (sometimes referred to as as J-35) and the KJ-600 airborne early warning & Control (AEW&C) plane. These two aircraft are set to fly from China's future Type 003 aircraft carrier.

Just looking at the new Chinese 003 carrier , going to be a piece of kit tbh don't know how a qe carrier would stand up to one tbh with the tilt to Asia , with their heavily armed escort ships also supporting their carrier and I'm sure new Stealth aircraft operating from carrier ,in my view would be very Dicey ,do you think qe could hold its own or best we stay clear ? ,And that's no reflection on the skill or professionalism of air great forces

Submarines are our main assets for anti-ship warfare. If we want to deal with carriers, we use the Astutes, not the carriers.

On another note, does the Type 003 has an air wing yet? Maybe we aren't the people to be asking about delays in jet deliveries but as far as I'm aware China doesn't have any CATOBAR aircraft ready yet, or even anything immediately in the pipeline. They could make do with helicopters and J-15s but it's pretty restrictive and hardly threatening compared to 5th gen aircraft.

Some speculation on aircraft for the Type 003, if they come to fruition they will have a formidable array of the most advanced mix of fighters, attack, AEW&C and support aircraft plus helos and drones , one of the many write ups

I don't doubt they will be very well equipped eventually when China eventually reaches their goals with the carrier projects. They can certainly afford it. Still, there's a difference between the Type 003 entering service in two years and the carrier being a genuine asset in two years with a full fifth gen air wing. It seems like that's still further away.

China are developing a catapult launched variant of the J-15, an E2D Hawkeye copy/equivalent and a naval version of their ‘5th gen’ J-31 F35 equivalent.

National Interest makes a play of that copy 'thing' but modularity of design is also quite important in informing carrier design:
"Judging from the images, Ordnance Industry Science Technology said that the KJ-600 has a very tight fuselage design, making it almost as long as the J-15 aircraft carrier-based fighter jet"
and if you want to copy an existing design, to get to a working prototype quickly, then understandably they didn't go for this one http://www.yak.ru/PIC/FIRM/MUSEUM/yak-44E.jpg

This is a really good break down of the PLAN. Interesting and more than a little concerning.

The taliban hadn’t either until now.

one thing the Chinese are not the same as 1945 and they gave the Americans a bloody nose in Korea by shear weight of numbers

Just add to this if look at all the navies in the western pacific other than China they have

2 light carriers
4 LHP's
11 LPD's
60 SSK
140 escorts
80 Corvettes

this dose not include the Australian , Canadian or US navies which would bring to the Pacific another

5 strike carriers
8 LHD's
140 escorts
6 SSK's
20 + SSN's

Also add the NATO fleet that include the US and Canadian Atlantic fleets and they have

8 Carriers
10 LHD's
20 LPD's
220 Escorts
60 Corvettes
39 SSK 's
30 SSN's

As the video pointed out China's strength lies in its missile arsenal. Most Western and allies navies escorts only carry no more then eight AShMs and around 48 SAMs though some larger Destroyers carry more, up to 100. Any Task Force will have to be ready to deal with hundreds of AShMs fired at it, and by missiles with greatly varying capabilities and flight characteristics. China would be concentrating on denying Allied navies access to the first island chain and be mainly defensive in nature but still be capable of concentrating massive force in a given area if threatened. As a result the level and size of force needed to carry out operations against this barrier and its mobile elements would be very substantial and signal a conflict of a size allied Governments may be unwilling to actually contemplate. They may be more willing to negotiate and grant China control over the area it wishes in exchange for free transit for trade but with China having the ability to restrict this much like the USN has at present.
