Straight out of written answers to the House of Commons: no plans to integrate Stingray, at least at entry in service. British weaponry considered, eventually, once aircraft is in service.

Stingray gets a lot of attention but I bet Ultra could crank out P8-compatible sonobouys pretty quickly.

Was there an SSN for them to practice against?
Might have been a perisher course but i thought that was 2 months ago. The T23 and 45 were in line and the merlin seemed to be in 2 teams , 1in the dip and 1 set of 2 dropping a picket of sonobuoys. I watched for about 20 minutes then had to stop the the labradors rolling in fox poo!!

There is a flare with a small explosive charge on a tether ejected on contact with water. Dropped from that a sonar buoy tube. Used on exercises less dangerous than the humble hand grenade. That would advertise to any submarine crew your found. Less confrontational than lobbing a stingray or Mk 54. Effective in saying Keep of the Grass.

Eglin...? To keep the housing grouped with that for F-35 personnel's families, i wonder...? The P-8 area shouldn't be Jacksonville...?

Wiki states closure in 1947 and knows of no more recent history or use?
"The airfield was built as a satellite to RAF Lossiemouth"

May be it is nicer to live next to an inactive runway than one running day & night missions?

He's talking about Elgin. Closest large town to Lossiemouth. Has a few estates made of predominantly MOD properties. About 5 miles from Lossie sat on the A96 road between Inverness & Aberdeen.

There is also probably housing available in Lossie itself along with Forres & Kinloss.

I'm only interested in Lossie if Joanna's is still open. Otherwise Elgin can GTF!

Joannas is still there. Still apparently with the same very sticky carpets & underage patrons. Perfect for the Army lads from Kinloss & the airmen from Lossie.

It's a place I've never been into despite living in Forres nearly 9 years now.
