How the T31 was allowed to proceed without a “cross deck boat bay” I will never understand

Probably something to do with it taking all the space used by the Mk41 VLS

It would be a major surprise at this point if the T31 wasn’t fitted with the I-SSGW (whatever that is) and is retrofitted with MK41.

I think it is simply because to reduce the "change of design" cost. Each and every detailed design costs. What is more, Babcock lacks such design experience. To keep to modification level "under control" = well within their work-forces capability, as small as possible design change is surely better. Just a guess.

At 03:00 of the movie, we can clearly see the 6x4 CAMM mush room configuration.

Around 03:10, we can see many machineries are "mounted" on a U-shaped plate. I understand it is the shock absorbing system. It also shows how putting that U-plates elsewhere is spending its internal space.

Around 03:14, we can see the starboad-side two boat bays are connected (has not wall in-between). Also we can see the (probable) CIC right below the bridge.

The problem is that we are still discussing what’s the role of the T31. If it’s a cheap GP “global cruiser”, which I think was its intention, then carrying boats, modules and containers should be a priority, not VLS and the like.

NavalNews reporting Babcock have won two ancillary contracts for the Polish frigate variant of the T31

Good to see UK shipbuilding industry getting something out of these export deals even if construction being in Poland.

I am not sure that Babcock getting any additional contracts on export of T31 will affect the price of UK's own T31's as they have a fixed price contract.

11 months in to the build it would be good to see how the first T-31 is coming along

First one is due in the water in 2023 for fitting out. I assume it must be well on the way.

First of eight blocks in position in the build hall. Gives no clue about how advanced construction of the other blocks is.

Why do you have a query about this? This was always the plan. In theory Rosyth needs some work in 2027 if not 2026 to keep the wheels turning.

If HMG will not find more T31 or additional T32s then it will have to be FSS followed by MRSS.

I agree if the last hull is due to leave Rosyth in 2028 then the workload will begin decreasing in 2026. Therefore the T32 contract will need to be signed late 2024 or early 2025 to keep the drumbeat going.

Mind the gap!

Or the assemble phase of FSSS can be? with blocks coming from Rosyth itself, and other sites.

Superfiring 75mms is certainly a choice. Still, good supporting evidence for the flexibility of the base design.

What's the deal with the two 76mm cannons at the bow of the ship. I know the Danes did it too but would it not be better to mount one fore and aft?

Where would you mount the 76mm gun aft? On the flightdeck? You could not mount it on the hangar roof as it is through deck mounted.

So UK has just ordered 3P ammo for the 57mm and 40mm guns on Type 31 plus land based gun simulators for 65 Million pounds
