If they make the claim around dangerous and single engined and then mention Sea Harrier they need their head examining to see if anything is there...

Glad Pilot has escaped, I believe he qualifies for a tie and membership of an exclusive club. Plane can be replaced.

Meh, too many.

Latest reports are that the pilot noticed a fault on the takeoff run, but there was not enough deck left to attempt to stop. Ejected straight after the aircraft had departed the ramp....almost landed back on the deck in their chute and ended up hanging by the parachute lines from the side of the ship. Pilot then had to release the harness and drop in the water to be picked up by the Merlin on plane guard...

Obviously the plane won't be salvageable and returned to service but given it appears to have been a very low speed incident and at very low altitude it might be relatively intact. Does makes you wonder if the aircraft was then 'run down' by the ship though.

According to seemingly well informed people on Twitter no. Neither with jets nor since the war, much less more recently.

Someone claims that Argentina and Brazil operated simultaneously from a US carrier but I can only find references to joint ops after the demise of Argentine naval aviation (all military aviation) and before the FAA pulled their A-4s and S-2s from ex-Foch.

Somewhat surprised that BAE/Boeing never thought to do a promotional event with multiple nations' 'Harriers on a carrier'...

Well at least we now know UK F35s no. 017 and no. 020 are not at the bottom of the deep blue sea.

It is being reported in the UKDF that the cause of the crash was "rain covers" that were left on the aircraft. If so pre-flight check procedures may not have been correctly followed.

If correct the ground crew and Pilot will be in trouble.

Seems weird because it relies on so many people not noticing. Not just the ground crew and the pilot but aircraft handlers and people in flyco.

It would explain why they did not ground all of the F35B's until they understood the cause. But it does seem bizarre when there are multiple checks and protocols in place to ensure that very thing can't happen.
