From the videos the 30mm look missing from the Queen Elizabeth? I guess they font need them for the pacific.

To my knowledge, they have never been fitted to Queen Elizabeth, unsure about Prince of Wales. If fitted with the LMM launcher they would be a very useful addition, with four providing plenty of overlap. It still bothers me, though, that Phalanx is not long-ranged enough to stop a large supersonic missile in time.

I am wondering if the fitting of 30mms were cancelled, and instead it was decided to wait until the 40mm is in service.

We'd be seeing an order going in for them, which we haven't, and the order has been placed for the Bofors 40mm and 57mm already. They're not really a stock item so if you want them you have to order years in advance.

Which makes the non-fitment of the DS30M mounts even more perplexing...as they have been ordered, delivered and paid for. They were ordered at the same time as the guns for the River Batch 2's...persumably they're in a RN warehouse in Portsmouth right now covered with shrink wrap...

The only reason I can think for not fitting them is the RN wanting to fit them elsewhere, which I think is unlikely (replace the earlier DS30's on River Batch 1's or T45's?). Or more likely it's because the crew needed for the QE Class has risen and they're trying to minimise the number of personnel needed onboard.

Either way there are currently 8 DS30M sat around unused somewhere...

Ukrainian Gunboats perhaps ? Possibly also looking to fit something better on the ‘Carriers. It may be 40mm, or Laser weapons, or even spaces for (Quad Packed) 4 x Tube CAMM silos. You may remember that concern was expressed about the QEC Carriers lack of defence against Aircraft & Missiles about 12-24 Months ago.

I can confirm PWLS did not have any fitted.

An interesting podcast on all aspects of operating an aircraft carrier. Just over an hour long but I found it well worth a lesson. Contributions from 3 RN flag officers and former carrier commanders including jerry Kydd.

Hope it is within forum rules to post here. If not please remove or drop me a message and I will.

Good USMC video here of recent flight activity.

Role of FDO does look a bit uncomfortable and risky. Is there a better alternative? Presumably also a risk of going deaf.
