UK Defence Forum Rules [Last Updated: 16 June 2018]

The UK Defence Forum aims to host rational and informed discussions on UK defence in a civilized and orderly environment. To that end, all users are required to follow all the rules stated below.

Violating any of the rules below will result in admin penalties, ranging from warnings to temporary or permanent bans.

Please be aware that you are a guest on a free service and the UK Defence Forum reserves the right to remove you and your content from the community at any time and for any reason.

1. USERS
The following rules apply to users.
  1. Respect and civility must be maintained between users. Any indecent, anti-social or offensive behavior towards other users, such as verbal abuse, plagiarism, harassment, threats, discrimination or rudeness is to be avoided.
  2. The privacy of other users must always be respected. As such, users may not share the personal details or any other sensitive content belonging to other users without first receiving their permission.
  3. Users are limited to one forum account unless given authorization to have more by an administrator.
  4. Forum accounts may not be shared or accessed by more than one person.
  5. Signatures and avatars must comply with all the rules stated in this topic.
  6. Board features must be used appropriately and as they were intended. Users may not exploit board features, including "bugs" that may occur within the board's software.
  7. Users may not use the UK Defence Forum as a platform to advertise other websites, products or services.
  8. As with regular users, admins must be treated with respect and civility.
    • Users have the right to appeal admin decisions affecting them via PM.
    • Admin notices and warnings must always be obeyed.
  9. Common sense must be used at all times. There are numerous unwritten rules which are not stated within this topic due to the fact that they are common sense. Actions that are unacceptable within most other online communities are likely not acceptable here either.
  10. Users may not use the UK Defence Forum as a platform to share pirated content.

2. POSTS
The following rules apply to posts.
  1. Posts must be presentable and readable.
    • The English language must be used at all times and in all areas of the board, including in private messages.
    • The correct spelling, punctuation and grammar must be applied to the best of your ability.
    • Additional formatting must only be applied to improve the post's presentation and readability.
    • Smileys must not be used excessively or inappropriately.
    • Letter cases should be used appropriately. Posts must not be created entirely in uppercase.
  2. Posts must contribute something of value to their original topics.
  3. Posts (and topic titles) must remain Safe For Work (SFW) and must not contain content that could be deemed indecent or offensive.
    • Content of an explicit nature involving sex, nudity, violence, gore or similar must not be posted.
    • Any content including minor scenes of violence or gore must never be displayed in the post body. Such content must only be shared via a hyperlink with a clear warning of what's contained.

3. TOPICS
The following rules apply to topics.
  1. Topics must be created within the correct forum sections and must have a subject which suitably describes the topic.
  2. Topics must be unique and not duplicates of already existing topics.
  3. Topics must have a purpose and be of interest to other users. The opening post (OP) must include enough content to encourage further discussion.
  4. All topics with a controversial subject must be approached with care and respect.
  5. Topics with a [News Only] prefix in their subject must only be used for the posting and discussion of recent news related to the subject.

4. MEDIA
The following rules apply to posted media, including (but not limited to) images, videos, articles and social media.
  1. Media must be credited to their original author(s) and must never be plagiarized.
  2. The original author(s) of any posted media have the right to request its removal for any reason and at any time.
  3. Images must not be "hotlinked" from other websites.
  4. Media must only be posted to incite further discussion.
