Interesting, but, not so big meanings?

Fairly niche, I guess, but I can see where the ability to push your AEW radar cover a bit further out than expected and sustain it there for a period, might come in handy

Good news. HMS Diamond, back at work. Want to know what kind of defect has caused the issue.

Hopefully to catch up with the CSG. Presumably it'll take the most direct route and not bother to go too far out of it's way to avoid those pesky islands in the SCS

Look forward to the day she can Sail under her own power again, and can be, hopefully, declared fully operational too.

Didn't Dauntless radar get an upgrade during the PIP as well?

Sampson did, don't know about the SM1850.

Do the T-45s actually need the SM1850. I am sure I read somewhere that Sampson has the ability to match the capabilities of that radar as well as its other roles.

Surprised I remembered it to be honest.

Thales Completes HMS Dauntless S1850M Long Range Radar Overhaul
The Royal Navy HMS Dauntless Type 45 destroyer's S1850M Long Range Radar has been officially completely revised since last week. The overhaul was part of the ship's "Upkeep 2020" program and included a digital "factory acceptance test" (FAT), Thales said in a March 17 release
https://www.navalnews.com/naval-news/20 ... -overhaul/

I suspect that is where Daring's S1850M radar is currently.

My understanding is that SM1850 is used to take the long-range search load away from Sampson, allowing Sampson to focus it's processing power on fire control.

Yep quite correct the S1850M shares the load with Sampson. The T45 only needing Sampson is a bit of BAE boasting. S1850M is an L band radar so inherently due to physics has a longer range than the S band Sampson. Ideally you would also fit an X band radar for better close in detail/coverage.

The story goes that the T45 design couldn't meet the rather tough requirement of being able to control several multi-aircraft engagements (fighter control) without a second radar. Not mentioned a lot but aircraft direction is an important part of the T45 duties.

The first Type 45 destroyer to receive the SV-CAMM fit is scheduled to have completed its upgrade by the start of 2027. All six ships of the class are planned to have received the SV-CAMM installation by the end of 2032.
When is the out of service date for the 45's again?

A full 11 years to fit CAMM to the T45's....the glacial pace of change continues.

As far as the T45 OSD is concerned, BAE really needs to be cutting steel on the T83's within a decade or another production gap will need to be bridged.

This would allow Daring to decommission in the early 2040's.

Very good summary. Clear, concise, and contains most of the information of interest. Great job, Richard Scott-san!

Will bring substantial increase in its AAW firepower capability, both in area defence and CIWS, but still looks limited in firepower for a ship of its class and crew size. If you take the new Israeli Sa'ar 6 1,900t corvettes with 70 crew as a benchmark for firepower at only a quarter of the T45s displacement, they will both have the same number of VLS cells 72, though T45 will have 48 Aster 30's compared to Sa'ar 6 32 Barak -8's for area defence and for CIWS 24 Sea Ceptor vs 40 Tamir's

• Barak MX area defence system with 32 VLS cells for Barak-8 (three variants, MRAD 35 km/ LRAD 70 km/ ER 150 km)
• C-Dome (Iron Dome naval variant) CIWS defense system with 40 Tamir missiles
• 16 anti-ship missiles, expect its the IAI Gabriel V, as being offered to RN for the T23's in the I-SSGW competition as the Sea Serpent with Thales
• Two triple 324 mm torpedo launchers for the Mk54 as used by the RAF P-8A's.
• Oto Melara 76 mm main gun
• Two Typhoon 25mm Remotely Controlled Weapon Stations

The type 45 however has to be seaworthy anywhere, the Israeli corvettes are designed for the Eastern Med and can carry far more top weight
