Yeah - I wish that the addition of addional VLS for Sea Sceptor could be done at the same time as PIP to minimise time out of water and thus maximise time available for active service at sea.

I agree this has been building for weeks Dragon has been working well over the last 3 year and she should have been sent

We continually review optimal delivery within the Complex Warship Support Plan. The Type 45 ships remain available for operational tasking when not undergoing maintenance activity or their PIP conversion.
HMS DAUNTLESS, the first ship to undergo the PIP conversion, has commenced a harbour trials programme and is due to return to sea later this year for sea trials. HMS DARING is currently at the Cammell Laird shipyard in Birkenhead, with conversion work to be carried out during 2022. The Ministry of Defence will take into account the lessons learned from HMS DAUNTLESS and apply them to HMS DARING's conversion.
The programme is dependent on the availability of ships to undertake the upgrade, balanced against the Royal Navy's current and future operational commitments. PIP conversions are planned to take account of the regular Upkeep cycle to maximise overall class availability and meet the readiness profile required to meet Defence outputs.

I thought it was all about the vital sea lanes in the South China Sea these days………
Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]
Shame the governments can't be arsed too build enough properly equipped destroyers then init
Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]
The ships are safer out east. We cannot afford to have someone actually shoot at them.

Well, at last someone has woken up. Let us hope that they are not allowed to fall asleep again until the job is done.

Will be great when HMS Dauntless is finally ready to escort the carriers without risk of overheating if it gets a bit warm!!jonas wrote: ↑22 Mar 2022, 14:11 commons written answers :-

And hopefully this means that with both HMS Dragon and Daring now getting PIP at the same time will minimise their time out of water,
Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]
So if Dragon is now undergoing PIP that means it's not being done at Cammell Laird as she's in refit at Portsmouth.
Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]
Did I read somewhere that dragons refit will take 3 years?
Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]
This helps to demonstrate the requirement for at least 8x type 83s…

I think it demonstrates how having an inadequate maintenance & upgrade budget can affect refit timetables, more than hull numbers.
..If the money was there, all the T45s could have been fixed by now.

Indeed - I’d argue they are compatible objectives as both are relevant to availability and therefore scope of coverage they can offer.
Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]
Don't worry, Bob's on it... 2 days a week on Type 26, one day PIP'ing Type 45, one day on Type 31 and one day on Type 83Scimitar54 wrote: ↑22 Mar 2022, 14:23 Well, at last someone has woken up. Let us hope that they are not allowed to fall asleep again until the job is done.
Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]
They all seem to be doing a maintenance period before going in for PIP. So the way I read it is, she will either complete her mainenance at Portsmouth then travel to Cammel Laird. Only other option is to complete both there.
Who else is going to be carrying out the PIP. Now that CL have learned the lessons from Dauntless, they are not going to go through the process of a new contract. Even if there were anyone available.

AND ………. 2 days travelling between Glasgow, Birkenhead and Rosyth, then returning to Glasgow again ? The ships will get built over time (OVERTIME).
Bit questionable whether “Bob” will venture south to Birkenhead though, The Krankie One would probably prefer to insist that the work was done in the Ferguson yard !
