Salisbury Plain Training Area (SPTA) - UK

Post by The Armchair Soldier »

A thread for the Salisbury Plain Training Area, the largest training area in the UK.
1 YORKS spent last week deployed on Ex LIONS STRIKE, an exercise designed to teach the next generation of Company Commanders but also a great opportunity for the Yorkshire Warriors to practice their skills and drills.

Tanks And Trucks Tear It Up On Salisbury Plain

More than 1,800 personnel and 700 vehicles, including Challenger 2 main battle tanks, have been taking part in Salisbury Plain's largest annual exercise - Exercise Tractable.

The aim is to prove that they can deploy the British Army's reaction force, the Lead Armoured Task Force, within 30 days to anywhere in the world.

Over the weekend every vehicle completed a 50km circuit.

That is a shitload of armour.

Interesting to note that they removed 60 Challenger 2s out of storage for it (she says it at around 1:25 in the video).

If the Lead Armoured Task Force has 30 days to prepare it doesn't say much for its state of readiness. Not to mention that of the rest of the British Army!
