New Mobile Coastal Variant of YJ-18 Supersonic Anti-Ship Missile Spotted in China
http://www.navyrecognition.com/index.ph ... ew&id=2959Images have emerged on the Chinese internet showing what seems to be a mobile coastal variant of the YJ-18 (YingJi-18 or Eagle/Hawk-18) vertically-launched, long-range, supersonic, anti-ship missile. Two types of vehicles are shown in the recent pictures: a 12x12 chassis acting as the transporter erector launcher (TEL) vehicle and a smaller 8x8 chassis that could be the transporter/reloader vehicle (or a different missile as the canisters appear to be quite smaller than on the 12x12).

Photo report: 24 Hours Aboard a PLAN (Chinese Navy) Type 052C Luyang II class Destroyer
http://www.navyrecognition.com/index.ph ... ew&id=2970Journalists from a Chinese naval magazine were able to spent some time aboard People's Liberation Army Navy's (PLAN or Chinese Navy) Type 052C Destroyer Changchun (hull numer 150). They published an interesting photo report with one picture every hour during an entire day (24 hours) showing the life of the crew on board a PLAN destroyer. Pictures were taken in July 2015 while the vessel was deployed in the western Pacific ocean.

Re: South China Sea
Fascinating photo-report there. Thanks for the post, Xav. Couple of things i found interesting were the presence of a Communist Party Secretary which, if all is as i am assuming,s eems very 'Hunt for the Red October' and that the crew quarters look a little spartan in comparisson to what we are used to seeing here in the West - even more surprising given that the ship is fairly new.

Re: South China Sea
I'm sure some of the footage in that doesn't belong to the PLA Navy. Isn't the shot at 0:49 from this French Navy video and isn't the final shot of a RIMPAC exercise?xav wrote:^ same thing came to mind

Yep, a very impressive display of an abject lack of innovation. From knock-off Humvees to Predators/Reapers and Russian bombers and AWACs. Impressive as her firepower may be all the same, it tends to temper claims of China's alleged military strength when you realise that it is still really rather hollow in many respects and is, in many ways, more a facade or a veneer, attempting to mirror Western capabilities rather than a substantiated independent implement of power.

It's a legal transit (although rare for the PRC).
