Maybe but Mentioned by Wallace at todays defence committee in the back and forth he was less than impressed, he mentioned, broken gear box, covid and lack of shed noted that when the navy command inform him it was running 22 months late.

11 years from cutting steel to service seems like an absolutely mental time frame. Is it conceivable that the first of the T31s might beat her into service?

Type 31 is scheduled to be in service by 2027, pretty shocking Type 26 has been delayed by a year considering the extremely slow build rate. I know she is the first if class but come on.

All five of the T31s will be delivered to the Navy by 2028 before HMS Glasgow is in service. How long it takes the Navy to declare IOC and FOC is anybody's guess.
Another questions is how does this extra £233m nearly the cost of another T31 fit? Do we still get the Batch 2 T26s for £450m? each?

The big question is this set back down to BAE or the RN changing things but we are getting close to the batch 1 ships costing 4 billion or 1.3 billion each meaning the remaining 5 ships will need to be built for 800 million each to keep the program on track of 8 billion for 8 ships. I can't see it my money is on the Batch 2 contract being 5 billion

I think that part of the 233 million is towards a new build hall, which is still waiting planning consent.

Even so that still makes the B1's 1.3 billion a pop or 4 billion for 3 ships remember at this time type 31 will cost 2 billion for 5 ships or 400 million per ship some 900 million cheaper

Yup it is a lot of dough more than the T31, even with the cost of Gov. Furnished Equipment added to T31 price.

I am running out of sympathy for Wallace, he's only recently finding out about about delays to our front line Frigate program? This seems unlikely.
This goes beyond BAE, what happened to the project mangers in the civil service that look after these things and what about the Navy, someone must be in charge of the program there.
This just seems to be a failure at every level. Tho from recent programs (E-7, Ajax) it doesn't seem contained to just the Type 26.

I don’t think he meant that he only recently found out, he was asked the question about type 26 and that was his answer about when he found out.

The E7 was under Gavin 'Don't tell them Pike' Williamson. And both Ajax and T26 have been going on for years.

In any event, Cunningham famously declared that it took 3 years to build a ship but 300 years to build a tradition.
Seems like we will need to reverse that maxim.

Little chance of the T32 going to Govan based on current performance and cost controls.
Also probably doesn’t help The Team UK bid for the FSS.
Sad to watch the inefficiency continue.

SD67 quoted figures for Type 26 :
2010 : 140 million for initial design
2015 : 859 million demonstration phase (includes some shore-based test facilities)
2017 : 3.7 billion for build
140+859+3700=4699
I also remember £300 million mentioned for GFE which presume additional to above contracts and now the latest £233 million the total jumps to £5,232 million, £1744 million per ship.

Apparently, the batch 2 contract is due to signed before Christmas which will be for 5 ships. HMS Birmingham first steel cut will happen soon after wards.
