It really Isn’t. UKDJ contorts virtually every parliamentary written answer into a major story, ladeling on additional information taken from wherever.

Main problem is Parliamentary written answers are often bullshit and promise things that never, ever come to pass.

Until UKDJ learns this and develops a degree of real-world cynicism it’s producing clickbait rather than journalism.

The only thing correct is the fact that some long lead items have been ordered. no contract for building the ships has been signed, So article is bull...t.

It's a step forward - I would read that as "the T26 programme is a core planning assumption for future budget planning" i.e. it's going to take an earthquake to remove it from the plans, so I would say that the headline is reasonably accurate. I'm not sure that I would have gone as far as saying "secures" in the sub-head, however! The fact that long lead items are actually being purchased would also seem to be a good omen.

I don't claim that this is a major story at all, the article clearly states that funding has been allocated by the Ministry of Defence to build and support the next five Type 26 Frigates and quotes Baroness Goldie saying that funding has been allocated to build and support the next five Type 26 Frigates. It's not up to me to decide whether or not this is "bullshit". Opinion doesn't mix well with news, I simply publishing an article saying X has said Y.

We're a small group of people doing this in our free time as a hobby, we're not a news company or business and we don't get paid. We're not professional journalists, I mean my day job is in a hospital. We write about things we think people want to know about and we try to provide a bit of background information along with it. We have no need to produce clickbait, we don't make any money with the website so whether 1 or 100 people read a story makes no difference, I still have to pay most of the server costs myself.

I thought it was newsworthy that resources have been allocated for the second batch so I published an article saying that resourced have been allocated for a second batch.

Another piece in the puzzle, if a lot of the lead items has been ordered it would take a lot to de-rail the next batch of the T26, will be interesting to hear when it becomes officially announced though

Perhaps they will try to fit another one in.....i know cloud cuckoo land

Unfortunately you seem to have one particular poster, who seems dislike anything you publish. The old saying springs to mind ' those that can do, those that can't criticize'.
I for one appreciate the effort, time and work you put into your articles. You only have to look at the 'replies' section under the articles you put on your blog, and it is obvious that many others agree with me
Keep up the good work, and ignore the naysavers that have nothing else to offer except to decry someone else's efforts.
All the best.

Surely it's a good thing if they have placed contracts for specific long-lead components. Hopefully that will prevent or at least minimise any future delay if all the components are ready by the time that construction has reached relevant stages.

I was gettig concerned that we had nt heard anything about ordering the 2nd batch of 5 frigates and this news just makes that confirmation appear more likely sooner rather than later. Even if it is not the actual confirmation of order of the 5 ships themselves from BAE. Hopefully this is just MoD learning from previously.

On reflection my use of the word bullshit was a bit strong, True what you have reported, but until a firm contract has been signed for 5 ships there is nothing certain, The government has History of backtracking on contracts, as well as cancelling numbers, Lets hope none of that happens and they order an extra couple as they will be needed.

In all fairness the article doesn't say that contacts have been signed but it does say that they'll be signed at some point in the next few years.

Absolutely correct. They need to be ordered ASAP as they are now cutting steel for the third ship, and need to keep the production line going. .

I am still amazed how big the T-26 is. Has anyone got an illustration putting a T-26 next to a T-23 to compare them?

In displacement T26 = 8,000+t full load vs 4,900t for T23. Almost two thirds again bigger!!
Or about 17m extra length.

A good indication of where the Type 83 needs to be going

.I'd be amazed if they're not in 10,000t range

I'd have thought more in the Chinese offering range anywhere between 10-13 k ,but hey going on past form the mod will only arm it with 16-24 missiles Purley for defensive purposes and no actual offensive missiles taking the enemy out ,so the size of the river class would probably do in reality for the type 83 eh ,

Agree 100%, especially if we want T83 to be the equivalent of US Arleigh Burke Flight III / DDG(X) or Japanese Kongo / Atago / Maya or South Korean Sejong the Great or Chinese Type 055 classes. You need that size of hull if you want 90-100+ VLS cells to fulfill the anti air/missile defence role. The current load-out for T45 would leave the UK CSG lucky to survive a first wave of missile attacks from either Russia / China, and probably screwed if they can send a second wave of missiles....

My only worry is will some beancounter think that the RN can make do with 3 or 4*T83's instead of the 6*T45's.

(Historical) The bean counters should be told, that they are only there to fund the RN and that if they are not willing to adequately do that, then the Treasury can save their salary ….. In short, they will Fire Themselves. Oh, and by the way we need 12 x T83!!!!! Don’t know how this got into the T26 thread

I'm probably too much of a pessimist but i'm convinced that's what will happen. It'll be considered a CSG protection asset and with 3 you'll be able to guarantee 1 to escort the CSG with maybe another 1 which can surge if absolutely neccesary.

Type 31/32 will enable this thinking. You'll have the ships to routinely deploy around the world, scale the heavy hitters to meet the CSG demand.

I hope i'll be proved wrong, but I don't think I will.
