This is the older Fantasy fleet builder; I might update it...

Had a little project today where I created a fantasy fleet builder game so I thought I would share it.

Really like this, it's quite fun. One small suggestion would be a separate CATOBAR CVF which I would imagine would be a bit more expensive to procure and operate, but I've no idea how much more.

Anyway, on to my fleet. This is what I came up with...

Asture Class x6 Unit cost=747 Total cost=4482 Unit ops=27 Total ops=162
Vanguard Class x4 Unit cost=1500 Total cost=6000 Unit ops=35 Total ops=140
Type 212 x4 Unit cost=300 Total cost=1200 Unit ops=10 Total ops=40
QE Class x2 Unit cost=3000 Total cost=6000 Unit ops=90 Total ops=180
Canberra Class x3 Unit cost=330 Total cost=990 Unit ops=42 Total ops=126
Type 26 x16 Unit cost=350 Total cost=5600 Unit ops=22 Total ops=352
Type 45 x7 Unit cost=800 Total cost=5600 Unit ops=20 Total ops=140
BAM Class x7 Unit cost=200 Total cost=1400 & Unit ops=3 Total ops=21
Hunt Class x13 Unit cost=10 Total cost=130 Unit ops=3 Total ops=39

Total Procurement Costs =£31402 m
Total Operational Costs =£1200 m

Though I found it a lot easier if I unilaterally decided that the treasury would independently fund the nuclear deterrent. :)

Asture Class x7 Unit cost=747 Total cost=5229 Unit ops=27 Total ops=189
Type 212 x4 Unit cost=300 Total cost=1200 Unit ops=10 Total ops=40
QE Class x3 Unit cost=3000 Total cost=9000 Unit ops=90 Total ops=270
Canberra Class x3 Unit cost=330 Total cost=990 Unit ops=42 Total ops=126
Type 26 x16 Unit cost=350 Total cost=5600 Unit ops=22 Total ops=352
Type 45 x8 Unit cost=800 Total cost=6400 Unit ops=20 Total ops=160
BAM Class x8 Unit cost=200 Total cost=1600 & Unit ops=3 Total ops=24
Hunt Class x13 Unit cost=10 Total cost=130 Unit ops=3 Total ops=39

Total Procurement Costs =£30149 m
Total Operational Costs =£1200 m

Oh, and there seems to be a spelling mistake on the fleet report for the Mistral. ;)

This is brilliant!

Here's my fantasy fleet. I sort of got carried away, so it took me a while to get it all under budget.

Vanguard Class x4 Unit cost=1500 Total cost=6000 Unit ops=35 Total ops=140

Hunt Class x11 Unit cost=10 Total cost=110 Unit ops=3 Total ops=33

Total Procurement Costs =£30357 m
Total Operational Costs =£1198 m
One more Astute class, kept the SSBN's at four to maintain CASD, kept the two QEC's, replaced the two Albions and Ocean with two Mistral BCPs, kept the three Bay class LSDs, upped the number of T26's to 16 to cover the original number of Type 23s, kept the T45's at 6, procured a further River class OPV for Gibraltar - all at the expense of two Hunts.

Yep that's why I went for Karel Doorman for strategic sealift for her wet and dry store capability as it can support the amphibious forces without relying on a Tide class from the RFA,
In hindsight they should be with the RFA as well, I suppose that's what you get when you don't have an auxiliary force to spread out e cost

Great idea! Took me forever to get a fleet that I liked that wasn't massively over-budget!
Fleet Report

Type 45 x8 Unit cost=800 Total cost=6400 Unit ops=20 Total ops=160
Venator Class x8 Unit cost=150 Total cost=1200 Unit ops=13 Total ops=104
Black Swan Class x10 Unit cost=60 Total cost=600 Unit ops=3 Total ops=30

Total Procurement Costs =£31084 m
Total Operational Costs =£1198 m
I've gone for something similar to what the RN was planning until a decade ago, 8 x T45, 10 x T26 (C1), 8 x Venator (C2), 10 x Black Swan (C3 - to replace OPVs and MCM) - Ideally I'd go for at least a couple more of these but the budget won't stretch that far lol.

I only chose the Canberra-class just because it's the closest in terms of size and capability to the type of LHD/LHA I'd choose for the RN. I would prefer a CATOBAR Queen Elizabeth-class, and I'm not sure if I would give the LHDs the capability to operate the F35B or not.

How about an RAF version? :P

P.S. The pedant in me can't help but to point out a couple of errors:

Astute comes out as "Asture"
The displacement for the Type 26 and Type 45 are way off - It says 17,000 tonnes for the T26, when under current planning assumptions is estimated to be around 8,000 t fully loaded and the T45 are around 8,500 t I believe, and not 23,000 as it states. I'm not sure but I think that the crew requirement listed is also lower than what it is in real life or planned to be.

You can afford quite a bit without carriers and nuclear submarines. In fact, I have spent roughly £5000 m less than the average on this thread, and have a much larger navy (a better version of the JMSDF actually).

Don't get me wrong, I am very much behind Trident, nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers. My point was merely illustrative, showing that if we wanted to, we could drop all that expensive high-end capabilities and quite easily create a superiour version of the JMSDF.

But still, superiour or not, any such navy would be nothing more than a showboat navy or a glorified over gunned coastguard.

Frigates may fight battles, but SSNs and aircraft carriers win them.

Anyway, I thought we had a "Permanent" seat? ;)

Well I would like to see more merlin Helicopters to replace the Sea Kings, enough F35 for three navy squadrons and six small diesel AIP submarines for coastal patrol. Otherwise id leave the navy as is plus of course the T26.

Hi guys
Thought I would have ago aswell...

8 x astute
4 x vanguard

2 x QE (was going for three but needed to include more escorts)
2 x mistrals (see above)
2 x bays

18 x type 26 all asw versions if I can, (I assume they all have the strike cells aswell?) nice little stand off capability to complement astutes tomahawks.

8 x type 45 to protect the carrier &/or amphib groups

8 x hunts

Bang on the £1.2 bn budget after loosing the 3rd QE & mistrals :(

I think that is very true. Its why I upped my astute numbers to 9.
However for for a peace time role a frigate is much more useful.
