Army Lynx Farewell Flypast today
Image
There's another Lynx farewell flypast happening across southern England this morning, this time by the Army. The tour is starting at 08:45 GMT and is due to reach London at 15:50 GMT.
Last year, the Royal Navy had their own version.

Far too early, and far too little left.

I wonder if they did something similar with the Merlin?

Confused Merlin HM1 must have had some deck trials either on a similar contraption or on an actual ship surly.

On a ship I would have thought. The rig for a Merlin sized helo would be massive.

Yes and No. WG.30 was too much helicopter for the Lynx engine and running gear. It also lacked investment and testing, so much so that the limited number of WG.30 sold in the civilian market got a bad reputation. Westland didn't help themselves with a truly awful customer service set-up. THe problem was Westland was skint at the time. If they'd had the money and focused on the Oil and Gas market and made WG.30 suitable for that in terms of power, redundancy and equipment they may have had a winner...
