Military Aircraft: Ministers:Written question - 39746
Asked by Tom Watson
Asked by Tom Watson
Answered by: Mr Philip DunneTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what recent estimate the Government has made of the cost to the public purse to date of the adaptation of the Voyager aircraft for the transport of senior ministers.
http://www.parliament.uk/business/publi ... -07/39746/To date the Departmental spend to convert one Voyager aircraft's cabin into an enhanced configuration is £8.9 million out of a total estimated cost of £9.6 million.
The aircraft's primary role will continue to be aircraft refuelling.
Re: Airbus A330 Voyager (MRTT) (RAF)
Pandering to the numerous UK dogs in managers.
Like 10 million matters in the scheme of things. What would it cost the UK if the Queen or PM were shot down traveling in an unprotected airline aircraft?

Re: Airbus A330 Voyager (MRTT) (RAF)
Anyone know which tankers are being used to support the F-35B Atlantic crossing? I note it's be postponed twice this week 'due to tanker issues'?
Re: Airbus A330 Voyager (MRTT) (RAF)
I read in a tweet mentions of KC-10, so USAF stuff. But i'm not sure if that's accurate.

Re: Airbus A330 Voyager (MRTT) (RAF)
Just seen another tweet that 2 x tankers and 3 x F-35B are making their way up the US eastern seaboard enroute the UK.
Re: Airbus A330 Voyager (MRTT) (RAF)
It was also confirmed that the problem was with the KC-10s.
Today one of the Bs had to abort, must have had a red light coming up. Spare jet launched to replace it.

^ There are 58 VIP/Business seats in the forward section.
^ The rear has 100 standard cattle class seats. The pig sty planned for the PM was cancelled.
^ The A330 used is ZZ336, which was delivered to the RAF on 21st September 2015.

Oh, for fuck's sake, tell me it isn't.
Isn't ZZ336 one of the precious few 3-point tankers...? Messing with a KC-2 was too smart a choice?

The KC2 fleet are going to be boom and drogue so not as mad a choice as you think. That was before Brexit , all bets are off presently.Gabriele wrote:Oh, for fuck's sake, tell me it isn't.

Re: Airbus A330 Voyager (MRTT) (RAF)
Really...? The interest for the Boom was made official (not surprising in the slightest), but the line was that there was no money for it. Was (is, hopefully) it actually a more concrete bit of planning in the works?jimthelad wrote:The KC2 fleet are going to be boom and drogue so not as mad a choice as you think. Re: Airbus A330 Voyager (MRTT) (RAF)
AFAIK, there was a planning meeting to integrate at least 3 possibly 5 KC2 to be available in the 2019-2020 timeframe. Also some talk of RAF crews being sent to work on KC10 in the next year. 3 UK pilots are in the test eval sqn for boom ops in the USN.
