Science Fiction & Fantasy - News and Discussion

Post by SKB »

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. . . .

'Star Wars Episode VII - The Force Awakens' is scheduled for an 18th December 2015 release, and so far, two official trailers have been released by Disney/Lucasfilm:

Teaser Trailer #1 (28th November 2014)

Teaser Trailer #2 (16th April 2015)

Do you think the new films will succeed in pleasing all the fans?
All relevant comments, news, rumours, plots, theories and potential spoilers welcome :) :( ;) :)

It won't please all the fans, no movie ever has or ever will.

I think a lot of the fans of the expanded universe (I think that's the term my Star Wars mad Brother used) will hate the fact they're going to be ignoring it... Not to mention all the people out there that got their panties bunched up because there was a black Stormtrooper.

I do believe this movie has a hell of a chance at being the first $2Bn earnings movie. It will be the biggest movie of the year (and I say that after watching Avengers:Age of Ultron, which is a bloody good movie BTW).

I have to add, the fact that BB8 is a physical creation rather than a CGI construct is something that REALLY intrigues me. I'm honestly looking forward to finding out just how it works.

Just to end, I'm going to admit that the opening shot of the new trailer gave me goosebumps. That shot of the Jakku landscape, the speeder and THAT iconic music.... 8-)

I believe that both Avatar and Titanic have previously made $2Bn, although Titanic did get a re-release to help it.

I can't freakin' wait personally, the prequels left a bad taste in my mouth and if these go some way to rectifying that then i'm all for it. I think that Abrams was a poor fit for Star Trek but he looks like an excellent one for Star Wars.

Also, making the massively overcomplicated, tangled and often shoddily written expanded universe all non-canon was the single best thing Disney has ever done. So much of it was so very terrible. :(

Interesting about Serkis, bro told me that he'd stated he wasn't a mocap character in this...

Pegg has (IIRC) backtracked and claimed that his comment was a joke, but a Craig cameo would be cool IMHO.

The Dam Busters (617 Squadron) a la 'Star Wars'

As you can see, George Lucas was very influenced by this classic WWII film
