This is like death by 1000 cuts. Let her die with some dignity!

(being torn to pieces with heat torches and pickaxes, whilst her wiring is yanked out, in working conditions that would make the average Victorian factory owner uneasy).

Hermes was, in my opinion, the first true ski-jump ramp carrier. Very saddened to see Hermes' ramp has gone, possibly forever. The ramp was fitted to Hermes in 1979 and she went to sea with it while Invincible and her sisters were still being built during the late 70's.

I would hope that someone could salvage the remains of Hermes' ramp and have it reassembled in Portsmouth dockyard, with the jetty guardian Sea Harrier exhibit parked on top of it.

Referencing the above phot of Hermes entitled 'Ready to go, 5th April 1982' ... The phot was not taken in 1982. It was taken the previous year in 1981, because look how many SHARS are on deck. There are 5 of them. In 1982, Hermes sailed with 11 of them (and a 12th joined soon afterwards).

It's 38 years to the day since HMS Hermes (and HMS Invincible) left Portsmouth for the Falkland Islands.
