Coming up to 20 years for the 4 we've still got. They've been worked hard, but arguably not as much as a similar vintage commercial vessel. Should have another 10 years work left in them at least before maintenance costs get to be an issue, they are very simple ships.Lord Jim wrote:How old are the Point class?

The teams manning them are on a special contract, so replicating that may not be trivial for a new operator, starting from scratch?
Ever-lasting truths: Multi-year budgets/ planning by necessity have to address the painful questions; more often than not the Either-Or prevails over Both-And.

Maintaining the availability of a number of Ro-Ro vessels at short notice to move mainly our Army should be seen as a top priority for the MoD and Treasury, especially as without them we lose a large part of our "Global" military. Ships and Planes are great but they cannot occupy a territory.
