Re: The war in Ukraine
What will happen as has happened in all other wars where this type action has taken place is solders will fight on to the death and take more Russians with them rather than give up and be murdered with no hope this will cost the Russian just as it cost the Japanese and the Germans if your enemy thinks if they surrender they will be kill whats the point of surrender

Deep in occupied Crimea, over 200 Km from the nearest Ukrainian held territory:
Seems to have been precise strikes on two different munitions storage areas of the base.

Re: The war in Ukraine
but the real question is what does Ukraine have that let them hit targets at that range + distance !!!!!
That is no clumsy russian dropping a fag or a weapon in the wrong place - those are military hits for sure.

Re: The war in Ukraine
They have soviet era missile systems that have a range easily reaching 200km and an Air Base is a pretty large stationary target and they know the location as prior to 2014 it was one of theirs. Ukraine has been careful not to use its long range rocket too often, but if Russian air power is having a detrimental effect on their ground troops going for the location it is coming from must be important enough for their use.

Those were some big, big hits - at least ten aircraft clearly destroyed and many that look intact have likely sustained write-off damage:

Re: The war in Ukraine
Many reports including from Ukrainian officials that they have began their long-awaited offensive on occupied Kherson and have made initial breakthroughs (mainly because Russian personnel have retreated rather than try to hold their positions):
If this is going to be a concerted effort to recapture the city (as opposed to a more limited operation intending just to improve Ukraine's tactical position on the ground) it is a very important moment which will heavily affect the thinking of Ukraine, Russia and Ukraine's international backers. If Ukraine can successfully expel the invader here it will increase confidence that they can do so in the East of the country as well whereas a failed offensive will lead to questions about whether Ukraine could ever be in a position to completely remove Russia through force of arms. Russia will also recognise the symbolic importance as similar logic applies to them - if they cannot hold the one major city they have taken what chance of being able to take much more territory. For that reason I expect Russia will fight tooth and nail for the city (if not the nearby countryside) even at the risk of large numbers of troops becoming encircled.

Re: The war in Ukraine
Ukraine would do better trying to isolate Kherson than actually capturing it. THe faster it could achieve this the better and the less time Russia would have to shift forces from the east.
Re: The war in Ukraine
I am reading reports that a joint US and Ukrainian programme has modified a number of its Migs and Sukois to be able to fire the US made HARM weapon system. Inaddition to engaging ground targets, the Ukrainians also appear to be using the HARM seeker head to locate Russian possitions by their ELINT signiature. Has anyone got any details on this please.
Re: The war in Ukraine
The mig- 29 s have been modified to fire anti radiation harm missiles as even noted by Russian forces with some success

Re: The war in Ukraine
Have we heard anything solid about the effectiveness of the harm missiles in Ukraine?
The end results of my thought was if very effective I was wondering if a certain national would look to reintroduction the weapon.

Would not spear 3 in an E.W form have some ability to attack or direct attacks of radars

Re: The war in Ukraine
According to the article attached above, Spear-EDEW lacks any form of warhead.
Re: The war in Ukraine
Perhaps I am reading the article the wrong way when it states as used in swarming attacking of the target this article suggests it can work with its "partners"

They are using lots of supplied vehicles from MRAP's, to Aussie Bushmasters and Brit Boxers. The footage shows them travelling at a decent clip, to push hard and force the momentum on the battlefield.
