I imagine she’ll be more than just a pretty sight if she is called upon for disaster relief

^ First time (I think) the lifts have been shown operating in a video ?
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
^ Landing spot 2 seems to be darker than usual. New surface? And note the Merlin stains at spots 4, 5 and 6 on the stern.

40 knot winds and heavy clouds, isn't that kinda usual in the UK?CameronPerson wrote:No wonder there’s no one on deck!

*insert obligatory "no planes" comment here for both carriers*When a Queen met a President. USS Abraham Lincoln a few berths along in #Norfolk #Virginia #USA

Both dead and buried.
PS wouldn't that Merlin be more comfortable below?

I have also been wondering why it hasn't been stowed, best guess is that its being kept ready for emergancy / S+R reasons?
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Comparison shot to follow soon hopefully. From what I can see the main difference in size between the two is in the length of the bow forward of the sponsons, making QE look a little snub nosed (beg your pardon Ma'am).
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
just as well you didn't mention the beam then
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I always thought. She was stumpy nose looking but as many havesaid prob becouse the second island. And ski ramp , beamlooks similar to american carrier. But lenght she is and dose look alot smaller in my eyes

If I remember right the sizes are around this:inch wrote:I always thought. She was stumpy nose looking but as many havesaid prob becouse the second island. And ski ramp , beamlooks similar to american carrier. But lenght she is and dose look alot smaller in my eyes
Nimitz - length 334m. Beam 75-78m
QE - length 280-284m. Beam - 70-73m
The slight variation in the sizes are due to where you get the info from
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Atleast still a bit bigger than the invisibles , if we had wanted size of american or future chinese or russian future carrier if they ever get around to financing it at 110,000 ton. I think i read im sure we could have built one or2 but as we prob dont need that size i quess she will do

70,200tn ( maybe push to 72,000tn )
284m long
73m
Beam
Up to 70 odd aircraft
250 - 900 RM
All for just £3.2bn each they pack quiet a punch compared to most ( 2/3 the capability for 1/3 the cost of the US carriers )
Iv read that China plans on 2 x 85,000tn carrier and then 2 x 100,000+ carriers for a fleet of 6 over all. How true this is and weather it'll happen who knows ( I wouldng bet against it )
I really can't see the Russian storm carrier design coming to ote, they havnt got the funding for it with more pressing needs they also havnt got a facility large enough to build it, so would have to build all that infrastructure on top of the carrier its self

Future Russian carriers will be confined purely to models and computer graphics. As every year passes their ability to build large ships slips further and further away.inch wrote:russian future carrier

Maybe if Russia wants a new carrier or 2 they should ask India to build them 40 to 45,000 ton able to operate 40 or so aircraft
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
That's one option or they could ask China, but I just can't see them doing it for national pride sake.Tempest414 wrote:Maybe if Russia wants a new carrier or 2 they should ask India to build them 40 to 45,000 ton able to operate 40 or so aircraft
I can only see 4 nations tops have "super" carriers in the future, UK, USA, China and maybe India
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
At a push maybe but I could see it as more likely that they'll go for another 45,000tn odd carrier for financial reasonsClive F wrote:France maybe??
