https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... Wales.html
Last night, Mr Wallace said: 'For the last 20 years the UK's Armed Forces have not been able to deliver to Nato what they have claimed.
Meanwhile, Britain's most senior officer, Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, 58, has postponed his retirement to continue advising Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky. The Chief of the Defence Staff had been due to retire in November 2024.
That useless, whining, wanker Wallace pissing on a tent that he's no longer welcome in. At least he hasn't gone back to promoting the Iranian regime again.... yet.

"The HMS Prince of Wales...." really says all that needs to be said of the Mail's journalistic standards on Defence.
And the bit saying that the T45's are going to sea without a full complement of Astor missiles. Itsn not just spelling issues in the article, the rest is BS as well, specifically mention Fort Victoria going out of service without mentioning the ordered replacements thus implying that from then on the RN will have no stores support for the carriers.
.
I couldn't make myself read more then the first bit but I thing the only 'source' in there is a link to there article in 2019 😶.
Also they said they had in-MOD sources but they spoke the quote from which I found a bit weird.
why: Gov cancelling the second carrier would be like to the MoD what cancelling of HS2 was for the DoT.
and not: Gov cancelling the second carrier would be very bad.
While the analogy is correct, I just found it weird, sounds like something a writer trying to add as many buzzwords into one article as possible would say.

Two very good adverts for building a drydock at HMNB Portsmouth.

Though we seem to be prioritising Z berths and docks at Devonport.

QE leaves Portsmouth

^ Ignore the commentator saying "PoW is bigger than QE", it isn't. Both ships dimensions are identical.

11:00 - QE is being tugged off PRJ. No SD Tempest tug again, is still at Faslane. Replaced by Phenix.
11:30 - QE wound south, has passed PRJ, VJ and SRJ.
11:35 - QE passes HMS Warrior and The Hard. At least one prop is turning as she's producing wash.
11:38 - QE passes Spinnaker Tower. *horn sounded*
11:42 - QE passes Round Tower & Fort Blockhouse, leaves Portsmouth Harbour, enters Spithead.
11:43 - QE passes Victoria Pier & Square Tower.
11:48 - QE passes Clarence Pier & Southsea hovercraft terminal.
11:50 - QE passes Portsmouth Naval Memorial & Southsea Common.
11:53 - QE passes between Southsea Castle & Spitbank Fort.
12:03 - QE as seen from Ryde, IOW.
QE RydeIOW 5Mar2024.png
12:05 - QE passes between Horse Sand Fort & No Man's Land Fort.
QE RydeIOW Forts 5March 2024.jpg
12:07 - QE and tugs turn SW heading towards Nab Tower.
12:15 - QE tugs reduced from 6 to 3.
12:45 - QE passes Bembridge Point, IOW. Nearing Nab Tower.
12:50 - QE tugs reduced from 3 to 2.
12:55 - QE passes Nab Tower under own power at 8.9 knots. Tugs reduced from 2 to 1.
13:00 - QE turns SSW at 8.9 knots. Single tug Phenix seems to be following at distance and only at 3 knots.
13:19 - QE goes invisible! AIS turned off.

15:30 - I assume QE is solo, as the tug Phenix is now escorting a 244m tanker named Aquatravesia to Fawley oil refinery...

When PWLS went up to Rosyth on one shaft with no tugs, nipper said it was the smoothest sail he had been on her in 3 years.

Wont the workforce required for QNLZ be specialist in propeller shaft repair and be completely separate from the various welder, fabricators and piper fitters etc building T31?

I am led to believe there will be some of the naval architects from T31 switching to QE at the very least.

Presuming that's the total amount of work required, and that no investigation work is required for why it happened, or any modifications to stop it happening again.

If this is the case it will effect Type 31 as the first one will be having her shafts and propeller fitted around now if she is going in the water soon

Besides the coupling they may bring forward the planned maintenance for next year, plus any other items requiring attention, so Babcock workforce will be busy unless they bring in workers from other shipyards etc.

Hopefully the "Project Ark Royal" refit can be accelerated while QE is up in Rosyth. Or at least give her paintwork some attention.

To change a corroded shaft coupling?
*Potentially corroded.

Maybe they're looking at a completely new coupling. Stronger and easier to inspect. Be the smart thing to do.
