(Defense Now) 1st October 2023
HMS Prince of Wales, hosted by Carrier Strike Group 10 and USS George H. W. Bush (CVN 77) will make Naval Station Norfolk it's temporary homeport this fall as it conducts aviation operations off the East Coast.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Westland 23 seems to be taking an easy to hard approach for it's eastern seaboard missions, going:
USCG ( just commercial dolphins)
USMC heli's (Normal heli's, attack and utility)
USMC V-22 ( Tilt-rotor but nothing new)
F-35B (SRVL, hard but done it before)
Mojave ( Completely new)
We had a nice starter and hooking warmup with fixed wing autonomous drone takeoff and landing demonstration.
Kept us watching with USCG and USMC in a climatic way,
really pulling us in with SRVL,
Climax of Mojave.
what a lovely story arch!

This will be at the Swedish air weapons range at Vidsel in Northern Sweden. UK has been making increasing use of it in recent years as its one of the few ranges in Europe where live aircraft bombs can be dropped. The UK only has the small Garvie Island off Cape Wrath that can be used, that has limited utility as representative targets cannot be set up.

(Royal Navy/Navy Lookout) 17th October 2023
HMS Prince of Wales has crossed the Atlantic to begin a series of developmental Flying Trials (DT-3) off the eastern seaboard of the US. Aircraft embarked include Chinooks, Merlin Mk2, Wildcat, USMC V-22 Osprey and AH-1Z Vipers. The carrier has visited Naval Station Mayport and will operate out of Naval Station Norfolk during the autumn trials period. She has now embarked two F-35Bs of Air Test and Evaluation Squadron VX-23 for trials with heavier loads and in high sea states.
