Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]
Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]
Even if they had been fitted, we have not completed the work to fire anything from them.
Its all very much still in the air. I suspect they don't want to interfere with the building of the vessels, its a case of get them built then its the "Tomrrow Navies" problem if they get the MK41 or not.

Yes, the end of the decade will be busy with new hulls in the water replacing the well used T23 so avoiding delays as much as possible sounds like the way to go... get a couple of T31 & T26 up to speed then decide on up arming the T31 with mk41 by witch time the stocks of whatever is going in the silos would be declded & availiable.....+ the CAMM upgrades on the T45 would be my first priority

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]
So here is what I think is going to happen Venturer will be handed over to the Navy she will get 24 CAMM and 8 NSM fitted in her first capability insertion program she will then workup and deploy to the Gulf fitted with 1 x 57mm , 2 x 40mm , 24 CAMM , 8 x NSM and S2170 SSTD. Next Active will be handed over and be fitted with the first Mk-41'sserge750 wrote: ↑30 Aug 2023, 21:20 Yes, the end of the decade will be busy with new hulls in the water replacing the well used T23 so avoiding delays as much as possible sounds like the way to go... get a couple of T31 & T26 up to speed then decide on up arming the T31 with mk41 by witch time the stocks of whatever is going in the silos would be declded & availiable.....+ the CAMM upgrades on the T45 would be my first priority
Venturer will get her Mk-41's in her second CI period on return from the Gulf
Don't forget that all the type 31's will have to go through a capability insertion period before they are first deployed this is just fact as this is when CAMM will be fitted

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]
From a purely political standpoint it makes sense for HMG to confirm virtually everything now.
Therefore the negative headlines would already be in the bag for the next administration if the decision was made to restart the cutting process.

- T31-hull1 : getting 12 CAMM in her CI period, and go to KIPION. No NSM. Make it simple and fast.
- T31-hull2 : the same as hull-1
- T31-hull3 : the same as hull-1
- T31-hull4 : the first to get 32-cell Mk.41. No NSM.
- T31-hull5 : the same as hull-4
- T31-hull1-CI2 (around 2030) : remove 12 CAMM, get 32-cell Mk.41. Get NSM, from decommissioned T23.
- T31-hull2-CI2 (around 2032) : remove 12 CAMM, get 32-cell Mk.41. Get NSM, from decommissioned T23.
- T31-hull3-CI2 (around 2034) : remove 12 CAMM, get 32-cell Mk.41. Get NSM, from decommissioned T23.
- T31-hull4-CI2 (around 2036) : Get NSM, from decommissioned T23.
- T31-hull5-CI2 (around 2038) : Get NSM, from decommissioned T23.
Then, we will have 5 T31s all with
- 32-cell Mk.41 (with 32-CAMM and 24 FCASW/TLAM) and 8 NSM.
Just my though, no firm reason.

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]
Must admit not looking good for UK defence now,cut as you say dressed up of course in bullshit slight of hand card tricks to try fool the public, labour will do absolutely nothing for defence except reviews then also cuts dressed as change of emphasis in the review, they will be plowing even more cash into the bottomless NHS ,thats my prediction for what it's worthTempest414 wrote: ↑31 Aug 2023, 11:34 Now Shapps is DM the RN will want to get on with it as they will nothing more now

Babcock's Type 31 & Arrowhead 140 Frigates at DSEI 2023
Jonathan Walton, VP Business Development - Marine, shares the latest with the Royal Navy Type 31 and Arrowhead 140 frigate programs during DSEI 2023. Babcock just laid the keel for the second Type 31 (Inspiration class) frigate, HMS Venturer. In addition, Poland's first Miecznik frigate and Indonesia's first Merah Putih (Red and White) frigate recently entered production. Both are based on Babock's Arrowhead 140 design.

Hi Xavier, that new MAST and fixed Radar is interesting, do you have any idea who is the supplier?xav wrote: ↑22 Sep 2023, 13:40 Babcock's Type 31 & Arrowhead 140 Frigates at DSEI 2023

On the scale model ?
Isn't that a scaled down version of the CEAFAR 2 radar ? (They are pitching Arrowhead 140 to Australia I understand. I should find out more in November at the tradeshow there)

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]
I don't think it is CEAFAR 2 as the shape, number and position of arrays doesn't match, eg six diamond shaped arrays. It might be Thales Sea Master 400 Blk2 but Thales tend to have the arrays facing for and aft at 90 degrees. Overall I'd would lean towards a low end SPY7 variant.
Or of course it could just be a model makers response to Babcock's request for a generic flat panel mast.
Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]
Thanks! I thought it is SPY7 like the same one on F110, but not sure.tomuk wrote: ↑22 Sep 2023, 21:20I don't think it is CEAFAR 2 as the shape, number and position of arrays doesn't match, eg six diamond shaped arrays. On 03:04 of the movie, there is a photo of the CG of Indonesian version. I thought that they were to be modifying the front section with VLS, but the CG looks like that came back to the same hull form as T31.
Do you have any info on it?

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]
As I understand it the front VLS was from some 'conceptual' designs by PT PAL for a future 143m frigate variant not the actual Merah Putih.donald_of_tokyo wrote: ↑22 Sep 2023, 22:10Thanks Xavier-san.xav wrote: ↑22 Sep 2023, 13:40 Babcock's Type 31 & Arrowhead 140 Frigates at DSEI 2023

(Babcock/Navy Lookout) 16th September 2023
CGI Animation shows a Mk4 Commando Merlin helicopter landing on the flight deck, launch of sea boat (using twin davits), a Sea Ceptor missile launch (unclear if quad-packed in Mk41 launcher.) Naval Strike Missile launchers are shown – they may eventually be migrated from the Type 23 frigates as they decommission. The Bofors 57m Mk3 gun firing, streaming of the Sonar 2170 passive towed array associated with the Torpedo Defence System and finally, the Bofors 40mm Mk4 gun firing.

As said unclear if quad packed but clearly from Mk-41 as the hatch opens just before firing

DE&S press release reporting the critical design review (CDR) for the Maritime Electronic Warfare System Integrated Capability (MEWSIC) Increment 1A has been approved, can now proceed into manufacture, testing and acceptance. The £100 million, 13-year contract awarded in 2021 to Babcock with Elbit Systems UK with its Israeli eM-e dominate system of systems for maritime EW an adaptive, open architecture system split in its command and control element, sensors element and countermeasures element. MEWSIC will see the next generation of Radar Electronic Support Measure (RESM) and EW Command and Control (EWC2) equipment being installed on T45 destroyers, QNLZ and PoW, and the T26 and T31 frigates
Increment 1B ? is the new trainable decoy launcher which will replace the existing fixed 130 mm Chemring launchers, Outfit DLH, (forcing the ship to manoeuvre to aim the launcher decoys) which currently equipping RN surface ships (DE&S Oct 2022 placed contract with SEA to update the T23 Outfit DLH). Elbit Systems UK is understood to be proposing a customised variant of its Israeli Deseaver Mk 4 trainable decoy control and launching system configured for the standard NATO 130 mm decoys, SEA is proposal is its new Ancilia trainable launcher system first shown at DSEI Sep 2023, the baseline Ancilia system mounts 12x 130 mm launch barrels on a stabilised training/elevating platform supplied by Chess Dynamics (part of Cohort Group).
MEWSIC part of the Royal Navy’s Maritime Electronic Warfare Programme (MEWP), actually split into two Category A (which means their value is greater than 400 million), which will provide an enhanced defensive capability against anti-ship missiles, understand Increment 2 is still in its Concept Phase, while the 3rd Increment has not yet seen activities begin.
