@Gunbuster on another forum said that sailors painted liquid hand soap over surfaces before the launch so that afterwards a few minutes with a hose cleared off all the gunk. Sounds a tad far fetched to me but he is a vet.
Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]

I wonder what the rates like doing most slathering the VLS in hand soap or removing the mushroom caps?
Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]
Not too many mushrooms, outside the galley, on a T45.tomuk wrote: ↑08 Jun 2023, 15:53I wonder what the rates like doing most slathering the VLS in hand soap or removing the mushroom caps?

You're welcome. Just pointing out how dumb your comment was. Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]
Surprised that sometime in the future T45's might acquire mushroomed CAMM? Yes, I'll be hugely surprised. I'll make sure I'll rush to find the closest T45 matelot and ask him the question. I expect him to tell me about 20 other jobs that he has to do that are way worse than slathering hand soap or turning a few nuts. Cleaning the heads comes to mind.
Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]
More that I thought Tomuk was referring to a fleet wide perspective rather than just T45 when he said:
I wonder what the rates like doing most slathering the VLS in hand soap or removing the mushroom caps?

PIP and Sea Ceptor in the same refit, nice to see the work startingDefender’s refit is scheduled to include the Type 45 Power Improvement Plan – giving her three new efficient engines to replace two original diesel units, a major upgrade to the Sea Viper anti-air missile system to both deal with the latest threats and increasing silo capacity by 50 per cent, plus other major work which cannot be done as part of routine maintenance.

Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]
How big is the T45? 8500 tonne which is at the top end of previously public figures is also the same as the 8500 tonnes T26 HMS Cardiff was reported to be in the recent bow roll out press release.ate four times the 8,500-tonne destroyer’s weight in baked beans.
Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]
Or Similar dimensions to the WW2 HMS Exeter (Never Forgotten), Heavy Cruiser no less. Just saying
Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]
With 3 new diesel units and 12 new launchers its going to get heavier.

RN says the refit will take 2 years. Navy Lookout says 3 to 4 years. Whichever, it’s a long time!
It’s worth remembering how long major refits take on complicated AAW Destroyers like the T45. Especially when some would have them replaced with only 3 or 4 T83 Crusiers rather than like for like replacements.
Just an observation.

1: Very good to sea “adding CAMM” is finally coming into reality.Jdam wrote: ↑27 Jun 2023, 15:56PIP and Sea Ceptor in the same refit, nice to see the work startingDefender’s refit is scheduled to include the Type 45 Power Improvement Plan – giving her three new efficient engines to replace two original diesel units, a major upgrade to the Sea Viper anti-air missile system to both deal with the latest threats and increasing silo capacity by 50 per cent, plus other major work which cannot be done as part of routine maintenance.
2: But I really hope to see her 114 mm gun replaced with 57 mm one. This will reduce crew size, significantly improve capability to counter cheap-and-numerous drones (both airborne and surface), and make forward the out of service date of 114 mm gun.
3: With item-2, I hope number of CAMM to be increased from 24 to 48.
Items 2 and 3 will not be applied to her. Too late. But in the second or third mid-life-update hull, I hope they can happen.

I also like what the French have on their 'destroyers'

Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]
depending what the RN do with Type 31 as far as Mk-41 goes if they were to fit all 32 cells and then quad pack CAMM then that is what they should have done with type 45 allowing 64 CAMM it could of meant type 45 having a load out of say 32 CAMM , 32 CAMM-ER and 48 Aster 30 NG plus 8 NSM and then replace the 114mm , 2 x 30mm and 2 x Phalanx with 3 x 57mm

Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]
I understand your dream, but I do not want Mk41 VLS to carry CAMM. Total waist of money, weight, and space. CAMM only needs about 4m or less. With a small deck house, or with a little extension, it can live with penetrating only one deck, as New Zealand frigate does.Tempest414 wrote: ↑28 Jun 2023, 09:27 depending what the RN do with Type 31 as far as Mk-41 goes if they were to fit all 32 cells and then quad pack CAMM then that is what they should have done with type 45 allowing 64 CAMM it could of meant type 45 having a load out of say 32 CAMM , 32 CAMM-ER and 48 Aster 30 NG plus 8 NSM and then replace the 114mm , 2 x 30mm and 2 x Phalanx with 3 x 57mm
For high density CAMM mount, we know RNZN Te Kaha accommodates 20 CAMM in an area prepared for 16-cell Mk41. A small extension will enable 24.
Another option is ExLS stand-alone. We can locate 6 cell unit (for 24 CAMM) in an 8 cell Mk41 equivalent area with large margins.

It is not my dream it is a what if and that what if is down to RN and what they do on Type 31 and how many if any Mk-41 cells are fitted. If all 32 Mk-41 cells are fitted to type 31 then they will need to quad pack CAMM or remove the front 40mm and fit say 20 CAMM theredonald_of_tokyo wrote: ↑28 Jun 2023, 10:35I understand your dream, but I do not want Mk41 VLS to carry CAMM. Zero business case. BTW the 57mm is not a CIWS.donald_of_tokyo wrote: ↑27 Jun 2023, 22:59 2: But I really hope to see her 114 mm gun replaced with 57 mm one. I would assume 1*57mm + 2*40mm is more likely than 3*57mm.Tempest414 wrote: ↑28 Jun 2023, 09:27 depending what the RN do with Type 31 as far as Mk-41 goes if they were to fit all 32 cells and then quad pack CAMM then that is what they should have done with type 45 allowing 64 CAMM it could of meant type 45 having a load out of say 32 CAMM , 32 CAMM-ER and 48 Aster 30 NG plus 8 NSM and then replace the 114mm , 2 x 30mm and 2 x Phalanx with 3 x 57mm
