Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]
Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]
I just wish it was still carrying Harpoon, even empty containers would at least look the part. A Warship should be able to engage in all three domains, in the air, on the surface and under water, even if it only really specialises in one.

Very good, should have seen that one coming. Oh well I see the clue in the name, Warships are ships, Submarines are boats.

Any ideas or views on latest delay in sailing HMS Dauntless?

Finished might be a bit too far but under going testing at sea is a Good sign
I wonder if going forward Dauntless will be the test bed for all the upgrades coming to the type 45 platform or if it will be time to get some miles on her instead?

HMSDefender in Kiel Week. Impressive is her large helicopter hangar, and tiny Wildcat helicopter. With several UAVs, she will obtain a good situation awareness. Also, those UAVs could carry ECM decoys to counter incoming ASMs.

HMS Dauntless finally arrives back home in Portsmouth this evening after she left on 1st May 2020 for engine upgrade work in Birkenhead. She has carried out a week of sea trials after 3 new diesel generators were fitted to help cure the propulsion issues that have plagued these ships.

Previously:
Looks like damage replacement rather than a PIP diesel hole. Wrong size and position for it anyway.

Navy look out says HMS Defender will be with QE for CSG22, not better to send HMS Dauntless?

Now back in Portsmouth, Dauntless is undergoing crucial planned maintenance and systems upgrades for the rest of the year to ensure she remains at the cutting-edge of naval/air defence operations before returning to the Fleet.
Trials, training and assessment will follow in the spring, with the ship fully operational again and ready to deploy worldwide – from next summer.
Dauntless had been in refit before being transferred to Birkenhead for PIP what else needs doing? That's also not forgetting the later addition of CAMM. The T45s will have such 'low miles' it will be 2040 before the T83s are needed.
