Looks much less problematic than Rosyth.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Very accurate video. It shows the entire H&W workforce that has any experience in ship work lining the dock.

When Lightning Strikes Twice

Read more: http://ow.ly/DJhB50Gag11The UK's two new aircraft carriers have been conducting simultaneous F-35B fast jet operations for the first time – thousands of miles apart.
Separated by 7,000 miles, HMS Prince of Wales in the North Sea and HMS Queen Elizabeth in the Pacific have been launching and recovering the stealth strike fighter on round-the-clock sorties.
Until now, the ships have embarked the fifth-generation jets but never have the two 65,000-tonne behemoths launched the fighters from their flight decks at the same time.
That’s now changed with HMS Prince of Wales exercising with the RAF’s 207 Squadron in waters close to the UK, while, on the other side of the world, HMS Queen Elizabeth carries out flying operations over the Pacific with her jets from 617 Squadron and VMFA-211 of the US Marine Corps.

How many F-35 were actually embarked? First it was going to be 6, then 4 and now I've not seen more than 2 in any photo.
Just checked the numbers on the aircraft, I can spot 3 different ones. So maybe 3?

Dug out an older (15th) article clarifying that 3 were embarkedRon5 wrote:How many F-35 were actually embarked? First it was going to be 6, then 4 and now I've not seen more than 2 in any photo.

Three UK F-35Bs from 207 Squadron are currently on board HMS Prince of Wales as she goes through the final demanding stages of becoming fully operational this autumn.

I'm sure Guam would be feel thrilled to be compared to Aberdeen.

Pretty busy deck - 3 F-35Bs, 3 Wildcats, 2 Merlins and a Chinook. Not sure if there's others but if that's on all at once I'm guessing that's the most they've embarked so far?

Don't forget the Banshee target drones and the Airfix model kit F-35B's!Max Jones wrote:Pretty busy deck - 3 F-35Bs, 3 Wildcats, 2 Merlins and a Chinook. Not sure if there's others but if that's on all at once I'm guessing that's the most they've embarked so far?

QE has changed its skipper halfway through its deployment........
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Are commands getting shorter these days to allow senior officers to move up as well as getting sea days?
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Or do we have too many Senior Officers for the size of the fleet.Lord Jim wrote:Are commands getting shorter these days to allow senior officers to move up as well as getting sea days?

LJ
Captain Angus Essenhigh was only just under 4 months from being 2 Years in command.
Darren Houston ended his time as Captain of HMS PoW in July this year, after over 25 Months in command!
So no, commands are not “getting shorter”. Examples of shorter periods than 2 Years can be found aplenty in the RN’s history.

Pretty sure Essenhigh is being groomed for the highest position(s). Can't hang around too long on each rung.

Am I right in saying that POW has worked up F-35 , Merlin , Wildcat , Chinook and Apache over September do we know yet what her airwing will be for Joint Warrior. Would still love to see 4 x F-35 , 4 x Merlin , 4 x Wildcat , 4 x Chinook and 4 Apache giving her 20 aircraft in a LHA style deployment along with Albion
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Think Apaches had been done earlier, certainly nipper had a good chat with the AAC guys about how they clear the guns as he had just been trained on the similar RN version. Got some pics, which I'll post, if cleared by him as allowed.Tempest414 wrote:Am I right in saying that POW has worked up F-35 , Merlin , Wildcat , Chinook and Apache over September do we know yet what her airwing will be for Joint Warrior. Nipper was gutted he missed him leaving PWLS at Gib due to his Phalanx training. It seems Gunners have an affinity to their commanding officers as the majority have progressed from the Warfare dept. That and nipper had made him a lot of 'wets' after raising the colours on the first island next to the captain's cabn and bridge.Scimitar54 wrote:Darren Houston ended his time as Captain of HMS PoW in July this year.
