Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
There is a bigger point here and that there is now 3 big deck carriers and 2 soon to be 3 smaller light carriers in Europe this allows the US to focus more of its carriers to the Pacific. And yes the European carriers will also head into the Indo - Pacific but they should only do so if the other two are in the Atlantic region

I'm not taking the micky ( coz i luv a bit of ribbing ) but would love to hear the UK French carrier debate in an alternate time line where the french built their own CATOBAR QEC ! - but would it of been called a QE class carrier....
Can't wait for 2038 if im still around.....

It's one of the questions I've always had about French carrier doctrine. The USN has 4 (rising to 5 in due course) E-2 as standard and regards that as necessary for 24-7 coverage. The French go with 2. Which either means they accept that 24-7 coverage is not possible or they run both aircraft hard for a couple of days on ops keeping up 24-7 coverage and pull the carrier out of danger if one goes unserviceable or after a couple of days when they can't sustain it. But then I'm always surprised at how light they are on ASW....the RN sees 8 Merlin as necessary to maintain a screen on a CSG and the USN agrees with its numbers of MH-60R in a CSG. The French seem to be happy with 2...
African tribes have neither supersonic ASMs nor submarines...
Fortune favors brave sir, said Carrot cheerfully.
What's her position about heavily armed, well prepared and overmanned armies?
Oh, noone's ever heard of Fortune favoring them, sir.
According to General Tacticus, it's because they favor themselves…

Does anybody think Spain will end up buying f35b for its carrier ? At least Italy can cross deck it's 2 carriers with QE class ,wonder if Cavour f35b will cross deck with QE on QE homeward leg back from deployment now Cavour f35b qualified ?
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Ps forgot too add I can't see Spain's alternative tbh
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Off thread but if Spain is part of the F.C. A.S would Spain be allowed by France to purchase the F35B ,as what happened with Germany
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Your right I'll change my reply over to Spain thread

Just as a side step could it be one of the full scale mock ups to help the deck crew get up to speed with handling at sea

Unlikely, it would have been seen being trucked through Portsmouth and craned on. Also we've only got 4, they're all at Culdrose, the training value we get from them is done there. You wouldn't get a huge amount more from craning one onto the carrier.Tempest414 wrote:Just as a side step could it be one of the full scale mock ups to help the deck crew get up to speed with handling at sea

But you know what....I might be completely wrong...don't recall them ever doing this with QE when it went through FOST, but it makes sense.Timmymagic wrote:Unlikely, it would have been seen being trucked through Portsmouth and craned on. Lightning strikes HMS Prince of Wales for first time
Read More: https://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/news-and-l ... f35-princeBritain has taken a big step towards a two-strike carrier Navy with the debut of the F-35 Lightning aboard HMS Prince of Wales.
The stealth fighter touched down for the first time on the deck of the second of Britain’s new aircraft carriers on a calm, clear day off the south coast of England.
HMS Prince of Wales manoeuvered into position to accept the aircraft which touched down on the sprawling flight deck with precision amid an air of excitement from the ship’s company.

Plenty of them but none substantiated I'm afraid.Timmymagic wrote:Any rumours on what delayed her?SKB wrote:Amd oh yes, she sailed on 6th June...

They always seem to be hooked up to the shore side system but also have the normal hum of their generators on most of the time so not sure.

Just posted this in the SK thread.
Just superficial similarities (look at elevator positioning, island positioning and VL farm). To be honest I suspect that this is a fair bit less efficient than the QE design, bit fightier though...

Slightly longer version:

(Navy Lookout) 9th June 2021
F-35B is XM149 (BK-15) and has become the first F-35B to land, taxi and takeoff from both QE class carriers. The plane is part of 207 Squadron and is based at RAF Marham. The Royal Navy now has two aircraft carriers with jets on board at sea. The first fixed-wing aircraft has landed on HMS Prince of Wales operating off the South coast of Devon. The single F-35 joined the ship for Sea Acceptance Trials - a first step to ensuring she is capable of receiving, launching and continuously operating aircraft. Three Army Air Cops Apache attack helicopters are also embarked on board.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Thinking the dsme design and tie up with the Italians is going to be the one chosen tbh especially after the Trieste built and up and running , quite smart looking the hhi concept but I think it will just stop that a concept and South Korea will go for the more conventional already out there design ,not brill for uk tie up but there you go

Hyundai are trying to cram an awful lot into 30000 T.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
But if Korea could build a couple of near QE sized carriers also Japan ,and India it would start to rebalance the run away increase of China's carrier dominance in the area , would been great if Australia could build a QE size also but it won't happen that's another story
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Interesting that they are not using a bulbous bow.
