I take it the role of the marines is the same as the RN/RAF on board? I am just trying to think why the RN/RAF seem to be the only F-35's we have seen with the outer missile pylons on so far.

As it's on the QHM website, I can now confirm that PWLS is coming back to Pompey tomorrow, 1200 passage into the harbour.

PoW is now a 3D model which is built into Google Earth (NOT Google Maps). The virtual PoW is at Portsmouth's PRJ, bows south and by the looks of her has arrived from Rosyth and is having Phalanx installed.

PoW is also in the older style offline Google Earth Pro, which has measurement tools... and she is 280m from bow to stern above the waterline.
Google Earth Pro can be downloaded free here: https://www.google.com/earth/download/g ... l?hl=en-GB

I notice that his compatriots are wearing safety glasses but it is difficult to tell if your nipper is as well.

Thinking of our late friend desertswo who would have been 65 today. I’m sure he would have enjoyed seeing and discussing the recent happenings with the carriers.

He would have loved this. He was a massive loss to a lot of communities.

Think its september. The benches make a lot of sense though, hardwood so very impervious to salt water and if you're going in to action you can sling them overboard without filling out an environmental impact assessment...

Here's another decent set (see entire thread)...with bonus submarine (not an Astute though..) USS Mount Whitney leading the line next to QE. Sub is NRP Tridente from the Portuguese Navy (Type 214 sub). The CSG is the two lines on the right.

It's what I imagined for the two carriers photo shoot. Was a tad disappointed it was just them.

Not sure what the origin of this YT video might be, but seems to be a further exercise update:

FYI - Posted in the F-35 thread.

A USMC F-35B has had to make an emergency landing on Ibiza. Aircraft has been photographed with a flat left rear tyre, not clear if this was the cause of the emergency however.

(GBC - Gibratar Broadcasting Corporation) 1st June 2021
The UK's Carrier Strike Group passed through the Gibraltar Strait this weekend.

The new flagship aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth led six Royal Navy ships, a Royal Navy submarine, a US Navy Destroyer and a frigate from the Netherlands.

The British government has termed it "the largest concentration of maritime and air power to leave the UK in a generation".

No surprise that the Spanish aren't providing any escorts as it goes past, but I wonder how they are reporting it
