Hmm. The third, BK-17 (ZM151) has a "Flap-Jack". Or "Jack-Flap"?! These are genuine. Not photoshopped!

I didn't see a third F-35B in the first batch of photos. Seems there have been more since.

It's been nibbling my mind - that dark patch near the bow - is that just an area with a recent wash down or is it another landing spot?

Is the entire flight deck covered with the higher thermal limit coating or is it just the landing spots?
I am pretty sure that area was re-coated dockside in Portsmouth. As to why....

The special thermal coating was only applied to the sections of the deck set aside for landing spots, it would have been too expensive to do the entire area and probably not worth the dent in the budget to do this where landings 'should' not take place! I doubt we will ever see a F35B landing on a merchant ship like the Sea Harrier did for fear of melting any cargo!

I'm pretty sure that 4 were involved in the initial landings, I think there was a twitter update confirming this.

Three 617/207 Sq. flew over from Marham: BK-14 (ZM148), BK-15 (ZM149), BK-17 (ZM151).
Three 17 Sq. flew from Edwards AFB: BK-01 (ZM135), BK-02 (ZM136), BK-04 (ZM138).

Seen (pics) on QE so far: BK-04 (ZM138), BK-15 (ZM149), BK-17 (ZM151).
Not (yet) seen: BK-01 (ZM135), BK-02 (ZM136), BK-14 (ZM148).

And US jets to come...

I see the RN has posted the following, stating that PWLS is heavier. Wasn't this just for float out due to being more complete, or because of the RM mods, I honestly cannot remember! Any word from 'E' recently, or is he on one of them?

Even with 10 on deck, it's going to look pretty empty.

Looks like that 4th F-35 is already tucked behind the forward island in the "first landings" video, could be a training bird for the deck crew.

Given the different markings on the top surface of the F35 behind the forward island I suspect that is one of the test examples from 17 Sqn while the other 3 are from the UK.

I thought that for these trials it was solely UK aircraft, i.e. 617 and 17 sqdn. Are we embarking US aircraft as well ?

I thought id read that between 4 and 6 USMC Lightnings would be joining as well. Good practice for a busier flight deck.

That's BK04 by the Island, looking a bit aged with its paintwork.. Interesting little ISO container on deck with a Air Conditioner sticking out the back.

So the three from RAF Marham (BK14, BK15 & BK17) are aboard and one (BK04) from 17 Squadron.
So where are the other two 17 Sqn planes, BK01 and BK02 ?

I suspect its to handle the telemetry data that the 17 squadron aircraft collect. There will probably be a lot more data in this set of trials. If with 17 sqn aircraft with possibly the U.S.M.C. aircraft including additional instrumented airframes. We will have to wait for there numbers. It would be sensible to locally remove the data during the trials rather than down load it at the end of the trial.

Good point. The instrumented aircraft will need to have the test data analysed.

Who actually said they would be coming. Surely they have other commitments or are under maintenance/upgrade. We will just have to be patient and wait to see what others show up.
