Emblazoned with brilliant red Welsh dragons on her bow, HMS Dragon (D35) has recently been off the coast of America with HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Northumberland and RFA Tideforce on the Westlant19 deployment.
The ship and her crew return to Portsmouth Naval Base on Monday. Her main role in the fleet is air defence; providing protection to her fellow ships by detecting, interrogating and neutralising enemy threats with her special anti-air missile system.
The first ever Dragon was built at Chatham in 1647 and was a 38-gun fourth rate frigate. She had 50 guns and packed a real punch. You can now see the newest HMS Dragon at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
