Agreed and this would be an easy win for HMG and UK PLC.

What is the OSD for the RB1's now? Anyone got any idea?

Wasn't the real constraint manning - and with the continued decline (by when?) of the mine hunter fleet the constraint (with the 2nd carrier and all that) is not as tight as it was before. Without Brexit the RB1s would be rusting (rusted :) ) away by now
Ever-lasting truths: Multi-year budgets/ planning by necessity have to address the painful questions; more often than not the Either-Or prevails over Both-And.

Very true. The antics of the French fleet has catapulted the fisheries protection vessels / OPV's into the public eye like never before.

IMO it will become more and more difficult for HMG to justify handing away UK fishing quota within the UK EEZ so foreign boats fishing illegally will become a bigger and bigger issue and politically toxic to ignore.

More numerous fisheries protection vessels and drones will be required going forward to secure the maritime resource especially if relations with continental neighbors sour further.

Didn't know this.... The reason HMS Medway was "silent" for long period.

Whoever was responsible for the new paint scheme needs a serious pat on the back and a raise.

Presumably this is the final result of the RN's "River Batch 2 Lethality upgrade" project

A "killer" paint job :D

I don't about whoever came up with paint job but whoever took that photo needs a pat on the back. The B2's are so good looking

Guys, help, I don't get it.

Several media, including ourselves, reported that the commissioning of Spey took place in January

https://www.forces.net/news/hms-spey-co ... royal-navy

https://www.navalnews.com/naval-news/20 ... oyal-navy/

But it now appears her official commissioning took place only last week ?

I thought raising white ensign = commissioning ?!

Perhaps it's just "first time" raising the White Ensign - in Portsmouth.

Under QRRN 9142, vessels whose commissioning ceremony is to be held some time after acceptance are entitled to ‘wear a full suite of colours’. In other words contractor sea trials complete, ship accepted, commissioning in Chatham 19 Sep.

Taken from twitter to the same question asked by you.

No it isn't. I see many times RN ships flying white ensign before the commissioning ceremony.

When "handed over to RN", the ship starts flying white ensign.
After RN side initial training and FOST ends, then she are declared operational.
Somewhere in between, she goes to commissioning ceremony.

For example, both T26-hull1 and T31-hull1 will be "handed over" to RN on 2025 = then flying white ensign.
In 2027, T26-hull1 will be declared operational. The date for being operational is not clear for T31-hull1.
In-between 2025 and 2027, T26-hull1 will be commissioned. T31, as well.

This is what I understand.

Thanks guys.

Alright so pretty much similar to Marine Nationale:
- There is a hand over ceremony with raising of the flag.... but ship is not "operational" yet. It goes through additional trials AND a long cruise and then:
- "Admission au service actif" = the ship is declared operational / ready for active duty...

It is now apparent that HMS Medway's flight deck is occupied by the 3rd ISO container, when steaming with RFA WaveKnight. So, Medway is not going to operate a helicopter in the plan. Not even landing. Interesting.

Yup - nice to see the Rivers being paired with a more heavily-armed vessel to protect them.

We have now seen two of the three B1's fitted with the porta cabin on the quaterdeck for this task so she will carry on with her normal duties
