Re: Apache Attack Helicopter (British Army Air Corps)
[ Point absolutely taken, Brimstone is superior in every way, however my caviat would be that AGM-179A is already integrated, in service, with vast stocks to call on in wartime. Going by the usual UK procurement standard, Brimstone integration on the E, would end up taking at least double the predi...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
You use the airbases in those locations for surveillance and the ships for prosecution and interdiction. This sums it up nicely. Unfortunately the UK barely has enough aircraft for sub hunting nevermind maritime security tasks.. Possibly more lack of crews and support packages than actual a/c. New ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
The UK needs surveillance over a massive area of ocean, so big it's unreasonable to do it with boats. There are going to be no kinematic engagements around the UK. It's likely to be hostile states and nonstate actors seeking to disrupt life in the UK through smuggling or tampering with infrastructu...

I'll stick my neck out - UAE. That was a massive prize. Looking at this with my old Management Consultant hat on, I'd say despite or even because of the previous mistakes there's a massive opportunity with Tempest. Typhoon is basically history. But by the early 2030s GCAP/Tempest will be in the air...

If your want to build an existing river to the existing design ok but risk increase is the similar do bae have the people and machines to do it without robbing other programs? I’m not sure why you’d want them there is no need for them and nobody wants them. What you were proposing was a as yet powe...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
It’s not just because. We have spent the best part the past decade developing the offboard systems with the French and probably the last 50 years working seamlessly with the Dutch, Belgians and French in mcm operations so why wouldn’t we take advantage of the integration work they’ve already done.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Bae were forced into modernising the yard because the defence secretary called out the absurdity of building a supposedly advanced ship under tarpaulin in a Scottish winter when the competition built a covered dock on much cheaper contract price. BAE invested in the infrastructure because the MoD f...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
That does the opposite it increases program risk across the board and makes it more likely that ships currently in build would be face delays. So what is the extra capacity for? The pace of build hasn’t increased at all. How many other European Tier1 escort builders couldn’t slot in a few OPV’s if ...

AESA radar equipped typhoons where delivered to Middle East customers a couple of years ago. Unfortunately UK Radar 2 is a different kettle of fish, it's typically 'British' in its approach, extremely capable, world beating, only making a few dozen sets as we won't export it or fit it in our tranch...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Actually, many options are there. Many…. Agreed. Unfortunately RN isn’t choosing any of them. RN need to add some lean crewed mass now. It’s the perfect opportunity to support Babcock to develop a next-gen OPV but Rosyth needs to concentrate on getting the T31’s into the water on time and on budget...
