That was what I was thinking, but he was adamant and my knowledge of that sort of thing is non existent, so thought I'd ask.

Re: National Shipbuilding Strategy
Quick question, while chatting to a friend he said that we cannot buy warships from abroad (i.e. its written in law). I know that we've tried to keep sub production here and that some RFA ships have/will be built abroad, so where do we stand on frigates and destroyers?

Canada and Australia both operate the first gen Hornets, so transition to the Super Hornet is a lot easier. Plus, the operating costs of a F-15 would be higher than a SH.

Re: Boeing P-8A Poseidon (Future Maritime Patrol Aircraft) (RAF)
Given the small fleet size of the P-8 and the limited quantities of ordonnance we will carry for it I would not be surprised if we use exactly what the USN is going to, only have forward maintenance for such weapons, returning them to the US for full maintenance. We could be looking at as few as 30...

Re: Merlin helicopters
Merlin has 3 engines, to reduce to 2 engines and use different power plants would be a bizzare thing to do and a waste of time and money? I agree its bizarre, however replacing 3 for 2 with more overall power (and a simpler gearbox arrangement) could possibly give it a lighter empty weight and make...

Re: Merlin helicopters
I'd like to see AW (Leo is a stupid name for manufacturer) update the merlin with twin t55's for commonality with chinook - more so as Apache will lose the rtm322.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Do they have to prove how many can get out in x amount of time, like passenger aircraft do? Logistically could be difficult but I imagine could be useful to know.

Didn't they try this before and have to back down? If they don't this time maybe the fa should man up and refuse to play (never happen as there's nobody there with any ball's - pun intended).

What about number 7? Is it still (near) flight worthy or have they nicked so much off of it that you may as well scrap it?

really ? would the sale of Royal ordnance to British Aerospace who wouldn't buy with out the contract not classify as politics. While I agree with you on that, if the rifles had been designed and tested properly (I.e. no constant redesigns for new people), it could have been in service and (don't l...

yes but when you let politics decide you end up with the abortion that was the SA80 sometimes it works well like SLR but interference nearly finished the Lee Enfield, nearly stopped us getting the Bren Gun and prevented us getting submachine guns as early as other countries. Just been watching this video about the Supacat LRV600 and it left me wondering what are they going to do now that JLR are replacing the Discovery 4? Do they have the option to buy the assembly machinery from JLR or just use old chassis' till they run out? Either way, looks like a good bit of kit, h...

Re: rifle 5.56mm L85/A1/A2/ (The Rifle/ Sa80)
If based on a 556 case (or like the 6.5 and 6.8 designed to similar overall length) that would be a possibility. I'm wondering if the L22 would be getting updated too, as I suspect that it could really use a muzzle shroud (or ability to mount a silencer) and I don't believe to you can fit one as is ...

What's on the bottom of the gas block? Could it be an HK416 / m320 style locking pin slot. Maybe the L17's will be getting updated for quick detach as well? And if that is a load of cobblers why leave it exposed? :?: The Combat and Survival article shows the socket it is indeed for the UGL detent p...

Are their any improvements to the working parts, TMH or barrel ? Well it looks like there's a completely new gas block at least Seems to be similar to the L22A2s gas block or even HK416, but different What's on the bottom of the gas block?
