Re: Mine countermeasures and Hydrographic capability (MHC) (MHPC)

I don’t see the need to stretch the Venari 95 design would fulfil the MHPC and littoral ASW role IMO. If I remember right the Venari 85 at 85m has s wildcat flight deck but only a UAV hanger. If they are intended to do ASW rolls and low end security ( counter piritcy and so on, which I believe they...

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]

On the 29th July 2010 George Osborne announced the the MOD had fund the Successor program and not the Treasury OK, but on 7 Dec 17 didn't Gavin Williamson state that the UK's nuclear deterrent had always been funded from the Defence budget. Well one is clearly lieing then or being miss leading and ...

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]

I think Tempest meant removing the CASD yearly operating costs as well as the total budgeted cost and also any increase in costs of the Successor programme. But to be paid for from where? If it's MoD expenditure then the only sane place for it to be is in the defence budget. There's no more cash av...

Re: Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia (1954-1997) (ex RN)

2 LHDs would be built to replace ocean and the Albions as putting the carriers in that role is not out of choice but due to being forced to due to lack of funding. Given that the RN commisaioning two LHD's would require a substantial increase in funding, I think that there'd be far more utility in ...

Re: Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia (1954-1997) (ex RN)

Carriers and LHDs proform 2 very different roles pretending a QE could do the same role as an LHD is a falicey and a complet misunderstanding of what an LHD does. Just because it has a large flight deck and looks like a carrier does not make it one. If you understand that why are you suggesting tha...

Re: Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia (1954-1997) (ex RN)

In regards to a pair of LHDs I'd see the RN going for something similar to the new Italian one, which is coming in at around £1bn The RN doesn't need to. The RN has two 70,000 tonne dedicated aircraft carriers, it doesn't need LHD's that prentend to be aircraft carriers. so when you take in to acco...

Re: Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia (1954-1997) (ex RN)

I agree with the use of the QEs in that respect I could just see them being used too much in that way at times. Fine. Build a couple of LHD's along the lines of the Mistral class to replace Ocean and Argus. I don't see the RN operating a new Royal Yatch the way I see it being done is for the fundin...

Re: Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia (1954-1997) (ex RN)

DFID? That has nothing to do with a Royal Yacht. If the Private sector want to pay for one, and pay for ex-RN to crew it great, but no way can the MOD or any government departments justify the spending. It could be used as a hospital ship just like the last one was. As for no government department ...

We could so do with these in the RN to replace the archers and scimitars. They'd be perfect for everything from training to port protection to riverin duties

Re: British Army Future Wheeled APC

If the army were to go ahead and buy a couple hundred of the base APC version with a 50cal for the Strike Brigades 2) For a multi mil unit price, does it do anything that Mastiff doesnt already do to a greater or lesser degree???? Can anyone make sense of it without useing army bullshit bingo speak...

Re: British Army Future Wheeled APC

What we currently have roughly 760 - warriors 590 - Ajax 800 - bulldog 550 - Mastiff + ridgeback I'd like to look at replacing all the Warriors plus half the bulldog fleet with a continuation of the Ajax, so say a total of of around 1700 Ajax in service of the varying types ( 350 Reece, 950 AFV and...

Re: British Army Future Wheeled APC

My idea is instead of upgrading warrior replace it with an Ajax variant and continue that on till the warrior is due to be replaced so mid 2030s But there isn’t an IFV version of Ajax, and the existing variants wouldn’t fill the role. The existing Reece variant is an IVF/AVF fitted with ISTAR so wh...

Why can't the funding come from serval departments, say the foreign office, the DFID and the Department for international trade ?

Purchase and run cost spilt between the 3 would be very cheap for each department and it could play s roll for all 3

I think it's clear were everyone stands on this, anyone got any solutions? Without getting into Fantasy Fleets, if an extra Billion or Two became available how would you re balance the escort fleet? If an extra £2bn became avalible solly for the escorts then I'd do - 1) an extra T26 at £750m 2) bri...

Re: British Army Future Wheeled APC

Is there any word on a more concrete order number yet or is it still the vague 500-800 that was put out before ? And do we know if any will be fitted with the CT40 or similar ? I'd be stunned if it went above 500. Almost certain to be a Protector RWS at best. That's a shame I would of seen getting ...
