What is the current UK bridging capability aside from Titan? Alvis Unipower still in use?

Re: Multi Role Vehicle – Protected - MRV(P)

When you see how the taliban still had plenty of trucks with machine guns mounted despite being at war with the US for 20 years, there is a lot to be said for heavily armed, highly mobile and highly dispersed small vehicles with decent mine protection. And F35 or Typhoon would obliterate a heavily ...

Re: Multi Role Vehicle – Protected - MRV(P)

The list looks very questionable. Direct fire. Is that just RWS? Mortars. Is that just an internal stowage scheme for carrying a dismounted mortar team? Air defence. As with mortars, is this integrated, or just a few tubes stowed in the back for RBS70 dismounted team? Not sure what OP though with d...

Re: Martlet/Lightweight multirole missile

It is interesting that the Seahawk Sigma platform has dropped from 5 to 4 missiles, there must be a reason for it? Perhaps the trials on HMS Sutherland a couple of years ago highlighted an issue? http://www.msi-dsl.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/SIGMAFeature.jpg I expect it's a performance issue. T...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

I think BOXER IFV is the lowest priority, for practicality and cost reasons. The MIV programme is intended to replace a host of roles performed by FV432 and others, as well as further variants (repair, recovery and bridging) that enable the force. Hence what we saw at DSEi was not an IFV. Had we stu...

Kiwi PM Jacinda Whats-her-face has already banned the new Aussie subs from New Zealands tectonically unstable, volcanic waters - even before they've been designed.... The USA / UK and Australia need to let the French have their tantrum and give them nothing in return as nothing is due. The French dropped the ball on this - why should their be any compensation or "favours" to "buy them off" ? Whether you like it or not, the majority of UK ISTA...

. It's very true to say that in the absence of any formal cancellation announcement, Dragonfire could be well and kicking. But, in the absence of anything from the Dragonfire team (and wouldn't DSEI be a great place to make some buzz?) it's fair to speculate that the program has been quietly side l...

Because a Bofors (or any AAA) is going to be useless against a manoeuvring target? 57mm Orka goes someway to addressing that Range 8km, Muzzle velocity 1000m/s, ToF 8+ secs. How does that hit a manoeuvring target? By manoeuvring as well that is the point of Orka That's a gross exaggeration of Orka'...

Not sure by what metric it would be considered a failure. The MoD placing a contract with somebody else to provide the same capability? Wrong. Raytheon capability is anti-UAV, and isn't just Laser system. Dragonfire is point-defence, only laser. It's not difficult to see the difference. The origina...

It's still in development and was understood by many to be a development programme and not an end product. Second question is perhaps mor...

Re: Ground Based Air Defence

At the other end of the spectrum we could do with a simple 360 degree triple mounted LMM on a vehicle allowing it to move quickly and be ready as soon as the vehicle stops I think it'll happen, but not until MRV-P platforms are clearly defined. I would expect it's a simple addition to a utility var...
