Thanks ACC,
So that would be a Rear Admiral? (Like Sandy Woodwood in "82?)

Thanks ArmChairCivy, So why does Australia, potentially Canada and others buy the super Hornet? Is it a lot cheaper to purchase / operate? Is it for Growler?

Re: QATAR
Not sure if this is the correct thread to ask this question but:
Can any one explain why you would choose an F15 over an F18 or vice versa?
looking at the stats to me unless you have to fly off of a carrier the F15 is Superior?

I'm not well enough informed to know min dims for flight deck / hanger for various options. Adding man power would also be interesting.

Options for Wildcat or Merlin or Chinook flight deck and options for 1 or 2 Wildcat or Merlin hangar would be good

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
I agree the Royal Navy is being revolutionised, and requires platforms to support that. Any platform can do the low intensity stuff, but no platform should be specifically designed to do that. Only a special few platforms can be classed as highly credible escorts, which is where the Royal Navy sets...

Re: Ocean Class Helicopter Carrier (LPH) (RN)
The more a ship looks like an "aircraft carrier" the more the danger there is of one (or more) of the "proper aircraft carriers" being Mothballed / decommissioned / scrapped / sold etc. Albions can operate helo's, can refuel, carry landing craft etc but can not be confused as fla...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
It may be quicker than we think, now the US marines are confirmed to be joining us so between us we'll be reaching a full deck much sooner. Great stuff IMO. Also means V22, which possibly means CSAR and tankers for the carriers which is excellent. Hopefully a step to procuring our own. I Agree. I s...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate
Wild Idea.
Build 6 new Type 45's with "working power plants".
Cross deck all the clever stuff from the old ones (batch 1) to the new ones (batch 2).
Rebuild old T45's at leisure with "simple" weapons fit (ie cheap).
Don't bother with T31's

Sorry a bit late to the party, my names for 5 T31's are:
HMS Nile
HMS Amazon
HMS Yangtze
HMS Mississippi
HMS Yenisei
(assuming they are a BAE Design of course)

Re: Astute Class Attack Submarine (SSN) (RN)
For the uninitiated wont reducing the length cause problems with "sea keeping"? Or doesn't length / weight distribution matter "under water"? (this is not a sarcastic comment)

I agree with TD FLF will be a River B3 99m. (Not called river and will have a frigate "name of old" as it will be a "frigate" don't you know!) It will have 57/76mm gun, wildcat and if lucky Seaceptor. Clive F

Re: Future 'Lighter' Frigate
As i've already said we will end up with extended rivers with seaceptor hanger and big (ish) gun. However wouldn't it have been a better idea (as suggested by TD) to make 8 small "pure" asw frigates/ opvs and then some larger "patrol /flag waving/ general purpose frigates (mission bay...
